EDIT: This isn't being broken down into genres, so basically, it is somewhat meaningless for anything more than what you had most fun with. (Which doubles as a recommendations list)

EDIT: Consistency: if you are using a later American release date(or any other region) then you must apply that rule to all your other games. Thus, cannot include JP-only games. Basically, the Bayonetta rule.

If we go global, then Vanquish is number 1. It is a hard choice for me either way.

EDIT: I didn't include SSF4 or Starcraft 2 because I've spent about 8 hours (+ however many Starcraft 2 campaign hours) between them collectively, and simply it wouldn't be right to list them.

I wanted to include GoW3 for the looks as well but I'm very bitter about the fact that I got past the first Zeus fight(the one leading into the final boss) and a scratch on the disc made the remainder of the game unplayable, lol.

Also I thought Bioshock 2 was a 2009 game or I'd have included that on my list, and fuck it, I'll admit that I liked FFXIII. I'm sure there's a bunch of other great games that came out but I just can't speak to them due to not having played them yet, like Darksiders/Dead Rising 2/Nier.

PC: Metro 2033. Although Mass Effect 2 and Mafia 2 both looked pretty awesome, imo.
