    Anyone good w/ kittens?

My step-cousin brought home a kitten and while I have no major problem with it, it can be annoying. If I'm outside of my room, I don't mind petting it for a few mins before continuing about my business. it's young, playful, etc. That's fine as well. It'll chase after my leg and try to play w/ me while I'm walking. That's fine too.

I let it into my room once, and this is where I'm not ok with it. Tried to play w/ my computer wires, controller wires, etc. Anything dealing with electronics. Cat got put out with the quickness. Now every time I try to go into my room it tries to run in realllly fast before I manage to close the door, then once I do manage to get it out, it proceeds to use my door as a scratch post, which I'm also not ok with, as it's a wooden door.

It also tries to force its way into the bathroom before I can close the door. That I'm also not cool with. The first time, I didn't rly give a shit. Omg a cat is gonna see my penis! No big deal, but when I'm pissing and it jumps up onto the toilet while I'm doing it, then I have a problem.

So, any recommendations as to how to handle the situation?

It sounds like he really attached himself to you and wants to be part of his life. Best thing to do is just keep a toy handy and if he darts into the room, let him see the toy and toss it outside and shut the door. As for the scratching of the door, get some of that no scratch stuff that smells vile to him and put it on the door. Should end that quickly. They really don't have a sense of privacy though. Both my cats follow me into the bathroom every time unless they are sleeping, and they do the same to my wife

Buy a good squirt bottle, that's how I fixed my kitten from a lot of her bad habits like jumping up on the counters in the kitchen, messing around in the garden, knocking stuff off my desk.

I had to really discipline my kitten because I found I was allergic to her after I adopted her from the shelter (yes I know, I'm dumb). But by the time I figured it out I was too attached to her to take her back. I firm swat on the butt or the bottle usually makes it click in her head to "Stop" and "Don't do that anymore." I had a problem with her licking and biting cords under my desk for a while until she accidently licked a AC adapter cord that was plugged in. Lets just say she hasn't done it since.

She usually follows me into the bathroom or other places in the house. Even if she doesn't do anything it's just a little unnerving to have her staring at me when I'm sitting on the toilet, as if she's asking "Why aren't you using a litter box too?"

Also, putting a couple baskets in my room (one on top of my desk where she likes to hang out while I'm gaming so she can be next to me) and having a couple toys on the floor in my room really helped. She's very affectionate and likes to be around me, so it's just a matter of teaching them what they can do and what they can't.

Just echoing the squirt bottle. You don't need to drench the cat either, just squirt it once. Also, get something that you are comfortable letting it play with, and take a few minutes to sit and play with the kitten and whatever item you choose. My youngest cat really enjoys playing with water bottle caps, just toss one around for the kitten, it'll get the hint eventually.

    Definitely the squirt bottle, like everyone else mentioned. Just be sure that when you spray him/her, say in a very firm voice "NO". Eventually you'll get to the point where all you have to do is say that word or even just brandish the bottle and that cat will know that you mean business. For my cat its "Get down" because she'd always feel the need to climb to the top of the bookshelf. o;

If the kitten is overly hyper, play with it for a while to tire it out. These things worked like a charm for my overactive kitteh.

Let her watch you go to the toilet. That's how my gf's cat learned how to piss in the toilet. Now we just gotta teach her to go poop in there to save on litter.

It's kind of funny how we found out. I would hear some pissing going on from another room and I would say, "Dammit, babe, close the door." Then my gf comes in from the kitchen to ask me what I'm talking about. The next time i hear it, i go over and the cat looks back at me like, "Excuse me...a little privacy please."

Cats aren't as smart as dogs but, damn, that is one smart cat.

If the cat is jumping into his piss stream a squirt bottle will not alleviate the issue

I also like the idea of a squirt bottle for your room, but also believe it or not this. ^ If the cat is interested in the toilet you might as well give it a shot to toilet train it. Not all cats can do it but if they are watching you that is a big plus. And having a cat use the toilet is fucking awesome. They have kits at petco to ween them onto it.

Also another good idea is if he's coming into your room or you can't get out is a laser pointer. It's what I use on my current kitties. One of them likes to try and get outside, but my current apt. doesn't allow outdoor cats. I however, avoid using a bottle because someday I want them to be able to go outside (hate keeping cats indoors), so rather than "scare" them from doors, whenever I want to leave and they try to come, I distract them with the laser pointer far enough from the door, then go out. Obviously though, this is not something that will teach them to get away from doors, but it is an alternative if the bottle doesn't work, or if you're trying to get them away from wires (water on wires doesn't help).

Another thing though is sometimes you just gotta be patient, attached kittens don't really mean attached cats. A kitten is a baby and so is going to act like you're it's "mommy", but cats grow up to be fairly independent. They will still want attention, but they grow out of needing it 24/7. So don't stress over it for now if I were you.

To the whole toilet idea, it's not like the cat is just watching, or even jumping up on the tank. The cat jumps up on the seat 9well the seat is up, so the (b)rim? of the bowl and sticks his head as if he's going to try to drink some of the water while I'm pissing in it (and yes his water dish has water in it so no clue why he's doing this).

As for the shitting question, I haven't come across that situation yet, and it will be prevented, lol.

I think it's safe to say like 90% (bs number but I've only ever had 1 cat that didn't) drink from the toilet, so it probably just doesn't understand that it doesn't want to drink it with your pee in it. I used to have a cat that was fascinated with the actually flushing part. No joke for maybe the first 2 years if it heard flushing anywhere in the house it would run as fast as a bullet and then watch the water go down (with her head twirling in the motion it was going no less). She eventually got over it but ya those first two years were funny as fuck. They are just insanely curious so you kinda have to be patient with that idea, and understand it's not really unusual.
