A desk and chair I seek

To put it bluntly, I put my monitor, keyboard and mouse on a small folding TV tray and move them when I wanna eat. I lay on my bed to type and do stuff on the PC. Well, I have recently come into a very large amount of tax-free money, and would very much so like to purchase a computer desk and VERY comfortable chair to go with it.

I am actively searching around the web to find one that fits my requirements, but would like to ask the community if they have any suggestions. Ideally I'd like a corner desk so that I have room to do work, school and put more than one monitor up. I don't know any way to test for a comfy chair without sitting in it, but if you guys have any good experiences with some brands let me know.

Consider in your advice that money in not an issue at the moment and I'll move on from there.

    Thanks in advance

    Those are some expensive chairs.

Personally, i like my $50 chair i got like 6-8 years ago, that has basically no cushioning left, and is held together with a thin piece of wood, and a few screws.

Unrelated, but i should ask BG medical about my back pain.

But yeah, if you've got the money, those are pretty damn nice.

I have an aeron deluxe adjustable chair myself, got it off ebay for 450 bucks the only thing wrong with it was the padding under the legs was dry rotting so I ordered new padding for 20 bucks with the double sided adhesive and its like new again.

The chair is 9 years old btw and sits amazingly comfortable but I'd shop around for a chair because not everyone feels the same about Aerons. They sit great for the people who they fit but some people where I work say they hate them. So its a dice roll really and for that much money I'd make sure you really like the chair before you buy it. I personally sit in one 8 hours a day at work so I knew I would love it.

As far as desks go thats another persons bag just my 2 cents on the aeron.

I have two of these desks and they're pretty nice. They're fairly inexpensive & you get a giant, nice quality desk.

For both office chairs & desks, I recommend you go through Staples if you do plan on buying from a local retail store. You can buy insurance for your products that costs like $20 and it covers your product for 3 years. Basically once your desk/chair starts getting shitty you call them and explain to them that it's showing signs of wear and tear, they'll send you a gift card for the entire amount you paid for the item.

Holy shit, those chairs are expensive. I mean I know I said money is not an issue, but damn, I'd have to sit in it for at least a day's worth to actually see if I like it. There is no way I'd pay for that online unless I knew personally that it was a good chair.

I have an aeron and absolutely love it.

As for desks, Ikea galant. Go to an ikea, spend 200$, you will not regret it.

edit: I can't find the thread where I was posting pictures of mine as well as other galant/ikea setups. oh well.

edit: lol what do you know, it's still stickied http://www.bluegartr.com/threads/898...-Thread/page10

Aeron is worth every penny. Got about 5 in my house, so good for long periods of time.

Your shitty $50-100 office chair will last a year or two, a $500-600 aeron will last 10 years. ( Sam Vimes theory (.
Your back will last a hell of a lot longer on aerons as well.

There are similar stuff ( freedom chair among others ) that are equally worthwhile looking at.

i had that, and after like a year it was all kinds of fucked up, all of the screws started to fall out and the thing was sagging from my monitor (which is a lightweight 22" LCD) and it would have probably fallen over if i had looked at it the wrong way, cheap and i liked the design but honestly it was a piece of shit.

Actually, I'm planning to build a PC later this year, and was considering designing and having a desk built.
Any idea what that might run?

That's why you buy the warranty so you can get a new desk! To be honest that's the reason I have two. I claimed my warranty and bought another one.

I would also recommend Boyiee's suggestion with getting a nice desk from IKEA, but, if you like getting something new every year or so, you can more or less exploit Staple's warranty.

I have a Gallant from Ikea as well. No warranty needed cuz the damn thing is solid. It has tons of surface area and is expandable if you need even more. Also, Herman Miller chairs are about the best chairs that money can buy. I have been looking for a cheaper alternative with the same comfort and I'm still looking after over 10 years.

I've been thinking about getting one of the Ikea desks. Would you guys recommend the A legs or the T legs?

    Screw chairs, get a recliner.
Got one over a year ago and it was probably the best $750 I ever spent. Got myself a custom table (not desk) from IKEA that's just the right height, enough space above my feet when the recliner unfolds. (Recliner wasn't from IKEA, they had the crappiest selection of "stylish" recliners, none of which were even leather )
Arm rests are big enough to place a mouse pad on, and the keyboard lies comfortably on your lap.

The appeal of this setup varies with taste, room space, and needed mobilty from the chair I guess, but I'll be damned if it doesn't make hours in front the PC comfy as hell. I practically live on the thing some days.

Combination of lack of sleep, no lunch break, and staying over late at work. But yes, it is easy to fall asleep on a good, comfy recliner. I use it over an actual bed most of the time.

I prefer the lesser profile of the T legs.

My Employer has aerons from 1999 and they still sit like a dream, theyre awesome chairs so when I seen I could score one on ebay or craigslist for 450 bucks I was sold immediately. People laughed at me for paying 450 bucks for a chair but I just think of how awesome my back feels when I stand up from a marathon starcraft 2 session and I stretch and im ready do go outside and jog.

I paid for quality and I will never look back.

I have an Ikea Jerker and if they were still in production id recommend that but since they're not and they've been replaced by the inferior Fredrik desk I don't recommend it but the Galant like others say its a rock solid choice.
