Okay, I know that this place is mostly full of nerdy teenage guys and guys in their 20s who were nerdy teenage guys, but I thought I'd ask anyway.

Is anyone planning on following the royal wedding between Prince William and Kate Middleton?

I'm a sucker for these types of things. I remember watching Charles & Diana's wedding on TV in 1981.

It's Diana's engagement ring, which I would think is a bit unlucky. I also think it's ugly. I prefer diamond solitaires on platinum bands, and recently I have grown a liking for black diamonds. Not that I would turn this particular ring, which is a sapphire, down. The girl obviously dressed to match the ring for the announcement too.

I think from a girl's perspective, giving her that ring is a cute gesture... aww, so romantic. It's not a bad looking ring, though.

This. I couldn't possibly care less about two astronomically rich inbreds getting hitched. We're long overdue for a republic.

The only way it impacts on me is that it'll all be done at the taxpayer's expense. It's a fucking travesty when the government's just cut billions from the education budget to sponsor two chinless toffs' nuptials.

Kate's family is self-made rich and quite common.

I used to live in Sheffield, England in the 1990s. It was always odd to me hearing about the class wars in England. My friends at the time were working class people and they were always, always angry at the aristocracy. Coming from Canada, I just thought of the British aristocracy as a pretty tourist attraction.

Wouldn't the UK suffer a lot from losing tourist money from the people who go there to see the royals?

Every now and then we here about ditching the Queen as head of state in Canada, but then we'd just be stuck with a president as head of state, costing about the same as the Queen, so it seems very pointless.

You mean you don't care about things that nothing to do with anything relating to anything in your day to day life? I for one have been following this romance for the past decade and I am shocked and excited about their engagement.(lol)

Really? On my list of things to see in England were Buckingham Palace, the changing of the guard at the palace, and the Tower of London. Right up there with Stonehenge, to which none of my British friends had ever been. The palace and the tower were definite high points of the year I was there.

Queen Elizabeth was in Halifax recently and I stood in the rain for like two hours to see her.

And when I was a kid my family went to see Charles and Diana at a military airport when they left Halifax on their honeymoon tour of Canada. My dad was in the navy and we got to see them leave. Princess Diana spoke to me.

This. Sure people visit the Palaces and such, but its not as if you can really "see the royals" anyway.

...Actually I had to go to a Garter Day procession like 15 years ago when my Uncle was head of the Choir at the Chapel in Windsor Castle. Pretty much the entire Royal Family walked passed us about 10 feet away, and looked over as I had my brother pinned to the floor punching him in the head for stealing my Leonardo. Got in so much trouble for that ; ;
