The sort of thing I do when I'm bored at work...
Came across this website about statistics pertaining to nations of the world. It's all quite interesting, but I found some of the mortality rates to be particularly entertaining:
Mortality Statistics
- In Mexico, 3 people a year die of acne. Not sure how that works.
- Mexico has the most deaths from Alcoholic Liver Disease, followed closely by the US.
- Brazilians have the most deaths by assault with a blunt object (by far); assault with a sharp object; assault with a handgun; assault by bodily force; assault by corrosive substance; and assault by steam, hot vapours, and hot objects. Remind me to cancel my vacation plans in Brazil.
- 5 people a year, worldwide, die from being bitten by a rat.
- 27 people a year in the US die from contact with a powered lawnmower, compared with Japan (#2) with 3. We da best.
- 213 people a year die from contact with scorpions. Look out Kerberoz!
- 1616 people a year die from falling out of bed, 450 of those in the US. Are people sleeping on balconies, or what?
- 34 people a year die from "flatulence and related conditions." Does "related conditions" refer to the innocent bystanders caught in the blast?
- US has 2989 deaths a year from obesity, in the lead by far. Nice to know there's something in which we will always be #1.
- 11 people a year die of "testicular dysfunction." I'm not sure what that means, but I don't think I want to know.
- etc.
