By 'shaded' you mean having the cell filled with a color?

i avoid Excel a lot of the time because my boss is so much better with it than i am but the first part, "shading cell C2", is really easy, use conditional formatting for "text containing..."

the other part i'm not sure, but i bet it can be done using a more complicated form of conditional formatting

Select Desired Cells >>> Format >>> Conditional Formatting >>> Condition 1

    Select the following options:

Cell Value Is, equal to, "CHRIS JOHNSON"

Now press the 'Format...' button, select the 'Patterns' tab, and pick what cell shading color you want. Click 'OK' button, and click 'OK' button again. Should work.

You can apply these rules to any selection of cells, rows, columns, or the entire worksheet. Just keep in mind that by default often you can only have 3 conditional formatting rules at a time. There are ways around that but it is annoying to set up, at least in the old ass version of Excel 2003 I use.

    Is this what you mean?

You can probably exclude things in the range that you set to duplicate, maybe you can have P6 use a duplicate rule for everything between A and P, then have Q use a duplicate rule for A-Q excluding P

I'm assuming you don't want just 'Chris Johnson', but any player's name depending on who the pick is. For the area where you're putting in the picks, use an 'is equal to' conditional format and just put in '*' as the text, that way anything that isn't a blank will be formatted that way. Then for the P column, set a conditional duplicate rule, then click on 'conditional formating > manage rules', then click on the little cell selection box on the right. Use shift or w/e to select all cells between A and P. Then make a duplicate rule for Q, do the same thing, use shift to select A-O, then crtl to select Q.

If you want each person's picks to be a different color you'd need extra layers of rules, but I think I know how to do that.
