    Hacking a PSP

Just got a hold of a new PSP-3000, looking to get it hacked to download and run some PSP iso's/cso's etc. Not sure where exactly to get started. Anyone got any advice or links to any up to date guides? Thanks.

What firmware version? If <= 6.35(possibly 6.36?) it's incredibly easy.

Bunch of info on this forum : http://wololo.net/wagic/

    If you're <=6.20, google for 6.20 pro-b5.

You will need to download a file that will update your psp to official 6.20.

Then you will run the 6.20 pro-b5 custom firmware update.

Then run the permanent patch (so you keep the custom firmware when you restart your psp)

Done, enjoy, and don't forget to thank fail0verflow.

This is the site I use, they are kind of a catch-all for homebrew and cfw on the psp. Nice forum section too.

So I got this PSP with 5.00 M33-6 that still runs everything new and old (the keys I had to rebuild still has a bug amongst it that allows me to play newer games somehow). The new CWs out there good or nah? If so, what's new about em if anyone knows?

    Get 6.20 pro-b5 or 6.35 PRO-B4, they're better in every way

6.20 pro, no reason not to upgrade, patching games is dumb.

i upgraded to 6.35 ( well i was at 6.31) and I've been running isos on 6.35 Pro B-5 (Newest release i believe), and I haven't had to patch anything up till this point. (Not sure what you are referring to)

side question, because my friend's UMD drive broke (well I stepped on it >_> lol) he has been relying on CFW to run games....its one of the first slim models, is able to be pandorad and all that Junk, but can I upgrade his to OFW 6.20/6.35 without bricking?

Pandora now is just for unbricking, if people even use it for that.

The normal pro-b update thing isn't permanent, you run it every time you boot you psp up. (I think they did it that way because of the psp go? no idea) and there's a patch that makes it permanent like previous cfw's.

You should be able to upgrade to official 6.20 without any problems, and then run the cfw from there without having to use any kind of exploit.

Thanks for the info, didn't think it'd be that easy. Still waiting on some games to finish downloading to try out. My bro-in-laws PSP was pretty old so I got him up to 6.20 >> 6.20 pro-b5. Seems to have installed fine. Just checked mine and I'm already at 6.35, so I'll end up doin 6.35 Pro B-5.

Is there much difference between the two?

Supposedly 6.35 has some compatibility issues, and I don't remember what else, but 6.20 is the "better" one but it shouldn't be a big deal.

I'm pretty sure there's a downgrader for 6.31/35 but it shouldn't be a big issue.

edit: OH, 6.35 isn't permanent. So you're gonna have to run it every time you boot it up, I'd just downgrade >_>

Don't mean to hijack, but what size memory stick duo would be enough for having a good amount of games on? 32 GB's is still pushing the 70-80 buck range.

The 32GB are around $65+ or so at the cheapest from what I found. I recently upgraded from 8 to 16GB and am really enjoying it. Can fit about 7-10 PSP games depending on memory.

Cheapest 16GB I could find was a Lexar model on Amazon for $32, which I thought wasn't a bad deal at all especially since ebay has 16GBs for $45+ used.

going from 5.00 M33-6 to 6.20 Pro-B5 as easy as just uploading the firmware and running the CFW like all previous installations?

Yes, update to official 6.20 manually, then run the cfw.

How I usually do it is upload the FW and CFW and use the M33 installer file to complete the whole process at once, time to google some instructions unless posted here. lol

    It's simple, download 6.20

    quick google: http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/1855

install, then install 6.20 pro-b5, then install the permanent patch if you want, done

I haven't used my PSP in forever, but can the PSP actually read 32+GB cards now?

I'm still using my launch PSP-1000 model
