Considering mounting my two monitors to the wall

Not sure where to start, though. I have a 42" VIZIO TV and a 17" Acer. No actual mounts for either, atm. Both bases come off. Any ideas on what I should purchase and how I should mount them? I want more desk space when I trade in for a slightly less lame desk compared to my grey 6' fold out table. ;/

Heres a pic to show the set up as is.

You probably want arm mounts for computer monitors since I tend to move mine a fair bit. Also because those 17" monitors are pretty light, you probably could just anchor them right to the dry wall depending on how thick it is. But you'll need a stud for that 42.

Do you need the 42" mount to move at all? tilt/rotate? Or just stay in one spot on the wall?

If all you need is for it to be in a fixed position on the wall, these are like $20

I'm sure it comes with installation instructions and hardware, you'll need a drill at the least. A studfinder would probably be helpful.

    I'll tack onto this.

I just bought a house, thinking of buying a 50"ish tv to mount over my fireplace. However, I worry that it will be mounted too high for comfortable viewing, but if I mount it "over the edge" of the mantle it'll look weird.

So what I'd like is a telescoping mount that could put it "up over the mantle" when not being used, and lowered down for comfortable viewing off the edge of the mantle when we want to watch it.

The only mounts I've seen online like that are for small TVs, so they wouldn't work for this. (like http://www.amazon.com/MX-Wall-Mount-...ref=pd_sim_e_2 )

Any ideas for one that articulates lower for a large TV?

    Here's my living room:

Moving around very large TVs puts a lot of pressure on the TV itself unless you can reach the mount itself.
I just mounted my 58" on a monoprice mount. The model has a lot of movement, and holds almost all flatpanel TVs. Make sure you hit studs, whatever you do. I actually just built the wall that my TVs are mounted on and mounted 2x6's where the TV mounts would be later.

For smaller stuff, I've been using these mounts:http://www.monoprice.com/products/pr...seq=1&format=2
Again, make sure you hit studs. I've hung a few using snaptoggles (which are the best for hanging in drywall, hands down), and they're still not as secure as I'd like.

Looking at picking up this tv: http://www.frys.com/product/6602994

$1000 if I order it today - Sony 46" LED 3D 240hz 1080p HX820. HX is their 2nd-to-highest model line (behind the crazy expensive HBR-HX line, which are more than twice the price).

Reviews seem to be pretty great. Anyone want to chime in? I have to buy it today to get it at that price. Any comments would be helpful.

I buy a large number of TVs for work, we have recently been buying a lot of 42" - 46" LCD and LED TVs as we upgrade locations.

    I've probably installed 100 TVs in the last 12 - 18 months.

I'm had a 0% failure rate with Insignia TVs. I can't speak to the quality of that Sony item you are referring to, but you ought to be able to find an Insignia 42 - 46" LED TV for 400-500$.

Can't recommend them highly enough, would absolutely buy one for home.

Thanks for the tip. I'm a little less concerned with failure rates than I am high-end picture quality, but I'll keep Insignia in mind. They sold out of that Sony before I could buy one, so I'm still in the market.
