    Coin Collection

Recently my grandfather passed away and left me his collection of coins. He collected coins for as long as I can remember and there is a medium sized safe slap full of them. I'm wanting to created an inventory list so incase I want to sell any. Do any of you know a simple and effective program that would make it easier? With all the G, S, D, etc.. on every coin and me being new to this, it easily becomes confusing. I counted 86 proof sets and TONS of single coins in bags or sleeves. I just want to get it all organized! >_<

Find a coin collector, pay to leave it with them for a couple hours and have them do it with the price of each. I did that when I was left a stamp collection.

And then when they find something worth thousands and this guy doesn't know it's even in the pile and pocket it...

We can only hope they ARE just people/businesses in this world. If you feel like the place you are bringing it to is going to justify thievery... then I recommend writing down your stock... then bringing it in to that said shop for pricing.

I agree with Odon. Unless you are planning on watching the dude price all of them, or want to count all of the coins before hand (ex. Quarter: 1977: 7 1922: 4 1953: 2 etc etc)

Personally I'd probably just do it myself. Also I'd probably hold on the coins for awhile, at least until the economy picks back up.

Or live with the possibility that someone could easily rip you off. I wouldn't doubt it either just from the resentment someone who collects/appraises coins might have of some "kid" inheriting a collection he obviously doesn't care enough to deal with himself.

My experience from watching Storage Wars & Pawn Stars is to find a professional. Most likely each proof is about $25-50 each.

I've been using a program I found today called Coin Manage 2011. It has pictures of all the coins which really helps me make sure I'm organizing them correctly. The only problem I've found with it so far is I have some coin sets but they aren't listed in the program. I tried to update and make sure I had the latest version, but I kept getting a invalid http response from the server error message.

I just wasn't sure if there might be an even better program to use.
