Filing a civil case and a police report

So, I was living with some roommates for sometime and I kicked them out for not paying their rent/utilities. Around that time, some things went missing around my house such as my PS3 controllers, my iPod, and a couple of PS3 games.

I found out yesterday that he took out a loan at a local pawnshop with some collateral property. And I just found out that he took my iPod and is using it openly. Now, I still have the iPod box with serial number and everything. How should I go about this?

I'm thinking about filing a police report for the stolen iPod and then filing a civil suit for the other property he had stolen/broke. What do you guys think?

Not sure, since I've never called the police or anything, but looks like you're good to go with the Ipod stuff. Anything that you can't prove he has though is pretty much tough shit, your word vs his

Dig up receipts and credit/debit transaction histories for anything you may want to claim was stolen. But good luck on anything that he could have realistically bought himself as well (e.g. a PS3 game will be difficult if he has his own PS3).

get police involved, call a lawyer. did you have rental agreements with your former roomies? the lawyer should give you the best advice on options ranging from small claims and beyond. but the less proof you have, the harder it'll be to come out on top.
