Absorbing Networking information and need more info

So i'm really getting into networking this semester, doing IDS, Firewall/VPN, Network+ and Linux/Unix server administration.

Been playing around with Windump and Wireshark at home and just dabbling here and there but I was wondering if anyone has anymore fun tools to play around with or links that have a lot of tutorials that are worth their weight and not a waste of time. Anything is really helpful.

For IDS, (well its really for penetration testing but awesome to generate IDS alerts with it, or ever to see how your firewall preforms under attacks) Nessus is awesome (Free for an almost full license for non commercial users) http://www.tenable.com/products/nessus/nessus-homefeed same for Metasploit http://www.metasploit.com/download/

but I agree with the above, I barely get through a day with out using tcpdump/nmap/wireshark

Snort is another good one to play with.

Fing is a tool similar to nmap, but for iOS or Android. Definitely recommend you check it out.

I'm sad aircrack doesnt work well with windows, oh well. I'll just have to play with it in Linux. A lot of these tools seem to work a lot better in Linux then windows.
