The LGBT victory lap dance thread

3 states are apparently going to have gay marriage, one is taking down a prohibition, first openly gay (lesbian) senator, and Obama gets reelected.

    Congratulations are in order!

WASHINGTON -- Rep. Tammy Baldwin (D-Wis.) beat Republican Tommy Thompson for Wisconsin's open U.S. Senate seat on Tuesday, becoming the nation's first openly gay senator.

For the first time in history, voters have chosen to legalize same-sex marriage on the ballot. Gay rights advocates are already celebrating this development as a critical victory and a turning point in the fight for marriage equality.

    ...

But on Tuesday night, voters in Maine and Maryland chose to legalize gay marriage, according to exit polls and early returns. In Minnesota and Washington, the results were not yet clear as of this writing.

I'm trying to think of what I'll do to celebrate. I was already on a high just from making a hell of a long traffic trek to vote, but now I'm truly exhilarated. The gay marriage and marijuana legalization successes... United States, I'm proud of you.

How about instead of called it "gay marriage" we call it "butt buddies"? You will have the same rights as married people, only the name is different.

That doesn't really work for women.

I suppose you could call them "scissor sisters."

You know, I never supported the sit-in that was done in supposed protest. I don't eat there either, but why would you do that instead of supporting someone who isn't intolerant? I've always thought it would be much more admirable to visit In-N-Out and happily eat there, as they're an openly religious company as well, but they don't spread hatred. In fact, the charitable organization that they donate to provides... well, in their own words:

If you'd like to celebrate by buying a burger from them in lieu of a chicken sandwich, I would support that. Hopefully, you live close enough to a location to do so.

I don't understand. how is not eating at a place in protest incompatible with supporting someone who isn't intolerant by eating at their restaurant instead? <_<; Anyways, i never liked in and out, their fries taste like cardboard. When I go out to eat it's either to rubio's, or more often, at celindas, a small ma and pa restaurant with kickass mexican food. ^.^

Did gay marriage win in every instance it was voted on?

You aren't costing Chick-Fil-A any money by sitting in their chairs. You're not going to change their policies. In fact, the people who made them don't work in the restaurants themselves; they're not going to care.

Further, if someone is headed there, they're already determined to buy the product. So long as the lines are short enough, filled seats won't be a deterrant. Furthermore, they also have drive-thrus.

In short, the sit-in was an impotent reaction that wasn't thought through at all.

Meanwhile, giving your dollars to an organization that displays the same kinds of values (those being the Judeo-Christian sort), without contributing to hateful sources, demonstrates your preference for that business. You are directly supporting someone who does not go out of their way to discriminate against your sexuality (nor those of others, should you be straight). Additionally, their charitable donations are not politically oriented; therefore, you can be comfortable with what they do with their profits.

One does nothing. The other does something. There's a reason hardly anyone showed up for the Chick-Fil-A sit-in; it wasn't worth their time.

Edit: I'll go to Checkers/Rally's and get their $1 spicy chicken that's 1/3 the price of Chick-Fil A, buy 3 of them, walk into Chick Fil-A and use their wifi while I'm eating my Checkers!
