Job advice (because the internet forums are great for life decisions!)

So just heard back from a perspective job offer from this place:

    http://www.networkingandcomputers.com/

Looked around and they seem legit, though I can't find any employee reviews on them. I originally contacted them when I came across their craigslist post. Anyways they got back to me and want to hire me on at $10hr and doing 4hrs a day.

The job seems to basically be ticket support where I remote in from home and solve issues with their client's systems (printer missing, server blew up, etc etc) and on occasion drive out to the client and fix their stuff in person.

Currently i'm doing work for my college as an unpaid intern in the lab setting up active directory accounts, cloning machines, writing scripts etc but i'd have to cut my hours down there to only doing that 1-2hrs a week instead of the 4-8 I do right now.

Long story short, opinions on if this gig seems decent or if I should stick with the unpaid internship (if I take this gig the wife has to quit her job and she's working 30ish hrs a week at $9/hr since I would need our only car). The job seems decent enough but only $200 a week before taxes is kinda on the low end.

Working at an MSP means two things. Being overworked/underpaid, and getting a fuckton of experience quickly.

Managed service provider. Front page of that website says they're an MSP. Also, my statement is based on the fact that my previous job was at an MSP. Worked for them for two years before getting into the IT department of the university I currently work at.

$10/hr seems really low for that type of job (typically in the $12-$14 range) but lack of experience means you can't be choosy. Its really the lowest rung of the IT field but the experience should be valuable, and the work experience will help you land a better job later.

Experience is hard to pass up. I've been working part time at my company doing IT work at the direction of the systems administrator, and let me tell you....there isn't a fucking printer issue in the world I can't fix now.

I didn't even know what a network printer was when I started.

I'm in a MSP atm in Quebec

Experience is indeed well, but don't count that as a job for your life

Yeah I went from not knowing what a domain was to deploying entire networks with individual machines for each FSMO role in about two years.

Yeah I told them I would take the position, too much experience to pass up on. I know how to set up DCs and Child Domains, work with AD and set up FTP logins and such already just from fucking around in my VM lab at home and at my lab tech internship gig at the college but I think this will give a lot more real world application to it as well...and make me hate most users even more!

Worse job is customer service. If after you get experience you can get a job without too much Customer interaction you'll be happy

P.S currently looking for an IT job without much customer interaction in quebec

The customer service part isnt too bad i'm pretty easy going and despite loving to troll on the internet every now and then, easy to get along with in real life lol. Plus it gives you hilarious stories to share with people XD
