Pioneers Unite!

In just over a week, Final Fantasy XI is going to get its largest single content update in over five years. The BG Wiki crew is battening down the hatches in preparation for the onslaught, but we'd like to enlist as many explorers as possible to help us chart the untamed wilderness of Ulbuka.

To coordinate our pioneering efforts, we're using this page on BG Wiki:

It's a temporary page that we'll use as a bulletin board of sorts so that while making wiki updates on March 27 and the days that follow we aren't duplicating or overlapping efforts only to have them erased or overwritten by another editor. For now, we're just using it to see who wants to get involved and what kinds of things they'd be interested in updating. We'll update the page on March 27 as soon as .dat mining information is available so that we can coordinate creation and updates for new area pages, monsters, items, synthesis recipes, etc.

If you'd be interested in helping out in any way, either post here or enlist on that page itself so we can start to coordinate.

Hmmm... Can someone contribute even if he's not listed there? I'm always with the best of intentions, but my contributions are extremely scarce so far... I'd like to contribute with whatever I could, like random quests I come across, or mob locations, etc, but I know myself and can't trust I will be doing all or something of what I say I will, so I'm hesitant to put my name there in case I end up doing nothing.

Of course, anyone can contribute at any time. We just created this page so that we could coordinate stuff because whenever there's an update, people invariably wind up updating the same pages. If more than one person is editing a page at the same time, the wiki has a failsafe which lets you know when you're about to publish something when there was an intermediate revision between the time you first clicked the edit link and the time you go to post the edit, but it's still a pain in the ass to go back and figure out what was edited and how it affects your edit/whether your edit is still valid, especially when you're making longer edits.

Plus, having all the links in one place will help us see what's done, what's not, and who's working on what. If you just want to go in and edit/add whatever you come across, that's fine. That's pretty much what I'm gonna be doing myself (just listed myself for "whatever's needed").

I can help with synthesis. Got gold at 104 and bone/cooking at 110. And I'll do a lot with Run lol. I'll probably end up helping with whatever misc is left maybe rework the enmity values

Ill be sure to ask you if we need any recipe info pertaining to Goldsmithing. If your feeling ambitious, log in as soon as you can on update day to figure out any new recipes for goldsmithing and post them here. I am in process of adding all recipes to every goldsmithing result page. It is a task but moving steadily.

I'm sure I'm in good company when I say that I certainly hope they add a decent amount of new high end synthesis recipes (and I also hope they don't forget to give those as-of-yet useless items from Umagrhk and Melisseus a recipe). Especially ones that ease the cost and/or time-consuming materials gathering necessary to get to 110.

I'll see what I can do. have never been much about editing things myself as much as letting other people with actual formatting skills edit it in for me. I'll be doing testing on RUN and whatever new BLU spells come out for the first week of launch or so

I'm glad to see that SoA won't be relegated to the BG subforum ghetto like Wings was. I'm interested in wikiing stuff but really can't say what until we find out how things work.

Funkwortz, I'm happy to contribute to the crafting section as needed. All crafts 95+, Cooking and Wood 110.

I'll also chime in on the new fish and what the different NPCs sell. I'm going hunting for a valuable de-synth on release, something like the femina subligar de-synth of CoP days, but for serica cloth or scarletite ingots I'm hoping.

We will probably handle it just like any other update.

1. Find the new items in the dats that are craftable.
2. Create a new thread in the crafting forum with a list of the items
3. We will check them off after people with the crafts find the recipe from the npcs, and post it in the thread.
4. I/we will then add it to the wiki on both the item specific page, any hq item specific page, as well as the crafting master list. (They are all now updated and accurate except for cooking.)

I will be on vacation during the actual release, but I will be back in the US in early April and would be happy to help in any way I can. Hopefully Byrth won't have tested all the things by then!

I probably won't be able to make a commitment to doing page edits, but would like to contribute as best as I can as well. Will there be a thread for consolidating information we'd like the editors to see with none of the fat of discussion? Like how the Dev Tracker and Dev Tracker Discussion are segregated?

You should see the usual post-update threads, as well as an inevitable several more.

Picking out the useful bits to put into a thread and then onto a wiki is sort of redundant, tbh.

For reference, all the items that have RUN and GEO added to them will have to be updated manually, but the images can be changed automatically. Should be able to provide a complete list of what they've been added to, though.
