Nintendo could be shaping up to purchase Atlus after their parent company hit serious financial trouble, according to a rumour. It has been previously reported that Index Corporation is moving to sell off its subsidiaries in an auction taking place on July 28, with Atlus as one of them. But a new report from International Digital Times suggests that Nintendo could be a forerunner into acquiring the Shin Megami Tensei developer, due to both companies working closely together on new titles such as Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem and the recently released Shin Megami Tensei IV. idk if it actually makes sense from a business perspective, as much as I love them, they're sort of niche titles and I don't know if it would actually move enough wii u systems to justify buying them, but we'll see I guess. I'd personally prefer if sony did, and had the PS4 be like PS2 pt2 with lots of jrpg goodness

Not a big fan of any of the big 3 getting their hands on Atlus but yeah... if any of them did I would want it to be Sony but it doesn't matter much to me... I don't even play Atlus games, lol.

Bullshit speculation or not, if one of them is going to acquire Atlus as a first party it's probably going to be Nintendo, especially when you consider their more recent partnerships. If Nintendo or Sony doesn't snap them up as a first party developer they're probably going to rot, because it's just not a sound investment for most of the third parties out there.
