    Corset questions

    Hi y'all~

So, halloween. I want to wear a corset as part of a costume, and ordered it already, but I have a question about sizing. I ordered: http://www.amazon.com/Bonitaz-Lined-...ds=long+corset, and got the 3x/4x size.

My dress size has been 14 more often than not, but women's waist size measurements are variable, because they can mean different things. I usually interpret it to mean the measurement of the smallest part of my waist (33"), but it can sometimes measure lower, towards my navel or my hip bones or the "man waist" were your pants hang. This is to say nothing of my hips, which is the widest measurement at 43". So the "waist" measurement can mean something between 33"~43" for me, usually leaning to the former.

I'm just wondering if I guessed right with the 3x/4x size, being that it's my dress size and close to the smallest size of my waist, as opposed to the xx-large size which is the actual size of my waist but including dress sizes I've never worn before (lol).

I realize there's only a few of you that can answer the question, and the rest of you are just here for funsies or you like what I post (secret PM's/tells to tell me to post more, here it is!), so for you all...!

Alternate ideas for halloween? Something I could throw together (no "hobo!", please!) in case stuff doesn't fit or I look terrible. I'm cutting it close with delivery dates. I was totally thinking of dressing like a dude and putting on beard shadow with makeup (because actually letting that shit grow out would be horrific) and hiding my hair in a hat or something. I still think that's a good option in case the sexy outfit (corset + heels = boobs and 6'3"!) doesn't work, but try to convince me otherwise!

Waist should be just above the hip bone, especially on corsets as they want to squeeze your waist, which can't squeeze bone. As even the listing says, always go by waist size not dress size when fitting.

In the future, I would go down and find your local Federick's and try on the corsets there. That way you can actually find the size/shape you like. And their prices are going to be about the same as that one off amazon.

Regardless, corsets come with a lace back, so you will be able to alter to your fit. It's usually better to go a size smaller than larger, as larger can look funny if the back overlaps from trying to make it smaller.

[edit] if you want to stick to that corset, and it's not to late, I would really switch to the 2X since your waist is right in the middle of that. The lacing on the back will do the rest.

Okay based on your "waist" designation, above the hip bone is like 35.5", which is in the 3X! This is why "waist" is confusing! The smallest part of my "hourglass" is really my ribs, I've never been skinny enough for it to be anything lower than that (and a positive note, I don't carry any significant "padding" there so 33"~ish for a good long while!)

I feel like I have to stick with that corset, it seems long enough (issues a warning for women under 5'6" lol) and is the color/style I want. I won't cancel the order, but it's free returns so if you still think it's a good idea and I see you tell me to do so tonight or tomorrow morning (the one I ordered will already possibly arrive Friday, with the early Halloween party on Saturday), I WILL BUY ANOTHER! :D

If you are like 35.5 then you should be ok. ideally it's like belly button area depending on your shape, but if yours is up at your ribs then that is too high anyways.

The design of even modern day corsets is to create the hourglass by squeezing in your body in the area between the hip bone and the lower rib. But again, just have someone help you with the lacing on the back to get the fit right. The nice thing is, once you get the fit, you won't have to mess with the lacing again unless you lose/gain weight!

Thanks lady! I was actually going to lace it up myself after watching this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eZJL8AVhp0I and it looks pretty straightforward (although I think my arms will get tired lol). Seems like a bad idea to just lace it once, though, from what the lady says.

Alternatively, bodice vs. corset. Still looks good, but it's not designed to crimp your innards like a too-small sardine can. Laced up, it'll still shape you nicely.

Be sure to break the corset in by wearing it for small installments of time until you can comfortably wear it for the duration of time you intend to be wearing it for halloween or the event you bought it for.

When you are doing these installments, start at the most loose you can wear it and gradually increase with each turn that you are using to get used to the corset.

When you are doing these trial runs, replicate the behavior you will be doing at the event. This includes any high heel shoes or extra layers of clothing you will be wearing with it. Be sure to try sitting, bending and things that increase the tightness of the corset through movement.

Also eating and drinking will change your size so remember to consider that extra expansion.

When experiencing light headed-ness, intolerable discomfort, headache, nausea in a corset these can be signs that you need to stop wearing it, or it may be laced too tight.

You should not get severe bruising at the stress points so be sure to check those during the trials.
Sometimes wearing an abrasive garment under the corset can cause friction.

Most of the above things can be experienced during a trial run while breaking in the corset, so that you are not ass out at an event with a too tight corset.

This is why I recommend trial runs.

    Finally,
Corsets can cause you to faint when you take them off so always unlace gradually and gently massage the skin that was previously bound, to return circulation to that area. Make sure you are not in a place where you can hurt yourself if you get tipsy while unlacing.

If you plan to get drunk, have a friend know that you are new to corsets and to keep an eye on your stats when you get drunk. This friend should understand how to properly unlace and lace a corset and what to look for as signs of corset fatigue.

Always bring suitable alt clothing you can wear if you need to take off the corset, esp if you can't drive with it on.

ohh i feel so bad for you. i also have an hour glass shape from hell (38, 28, 37). makes it very difficult to buy clothes, especially shirts, because of my large breasts (32DD) and tiny waist. it's hard to get anything to look good cause it's always too loose in the middle, goes too low, or hikes up at the bottom and in the front, or doesn't fall right on hips.

what i would do is buy a corset that PULLS closed on the backside and get your "normal size" that way if it's too big or too small, the ties on the back will compensate.

luckily corsets are set up so your breasts popping out is normal. if it doesn't have pull ties, find a size that matches your waist, you can always add pads if the top is too big, and if the top is too small - mission accomplished

I think you should have gotten 2X personally, but I guess you'll see when you get it! It is plastic boned so you wont be squeezed in too much, for the price you are paying its really more decorative than it would be squishy. Its much easier to have a friend strap you in to the corset, so you can grip on a chair back for the tightest fit.

Its really hit-or-miss unless you can try the particular corset on, especially for overbust corsets because you never know what they are going to do. I got to corset story because they typically have good quality things and decent prices http://www.corset-story.com/?gclid=C...FQeg4AodLgEA0A

I agree with Senji, being able to try on a few and then return what you don't need works very well I do it for bras all the time because those are a PITA to buy.

I was considering this, but probably going to do this tonight because I just got paid (I was working without pay, just a promise to pay when the gov't opened, idkwtf). I really want to try this thing on!

(edit) just did ordered with amazon prime. lol Will be here Friday! <3

You have some serious advice here, thoughts were provoked! (Also hi!)

I will do my best to break it in beforehand (I did this with my heels and they were so much more comfortable!!!) per your advice, and I'm lucky that another girl is going who owns a corset who is excited that I'm going to wear a corset! I'm sure she'll help me fiddle with it if I ask, or unlace me if I need it and for some reason can't reach. Worse comes to worse, I'm sure the guy will get a kick out of unlacing me if I need him to.

Between Mistress' advice and yours, I think I will be okay. I mean, it can't be worse than tucking.

Update: 2x too big in the bust area, and doesnt really cinch my waist. Buying another!

Edit: What are these little straps that it came with? It has 3 straps that are adjustable, with little tabs and slider things.

The annoying thing about corsets, is sometimes they are sizing based on what you want your waist to be after it's on. lol

Good thing you did the prime thing.

And I am going to whack you over the head and restate next time you want a corset (or anything form fitting) go to an actual store!

It's actually rather fun to do imo.
