Broken Graphics Card

So I just played a game (league) and during moments of lots of action my screen was filled with coloured triangles flashing across the screen so I'm pretty sure my graphics card is going senile. I can play HD videos/youtube and everything else fine so I don't really know what that means, I guess it's half broken.

If I get a new graphics card what do I need to know in terms of component compatibility. I got my pc probably 4 years ago is there a chance a newish graphics card (doesn't have to be that new really) won't be compatible with my older components. I don't even know what it plugs into, would that be my motherboard?

My current card is an ATI Radeon HD 4800

I did take about 3.5 tonnes of dust out of my computer, half of which was in and around the graphics card. Is it possible that a vcard can be in fine working order but only go crazy when it gets too hot? My graphics looked fine when it was just me and my team on the screen doing nothing but when all the action started the graphics went crazy so maybe it was getting too hot in those moments from all the dust.

Yes, it is a definite possibility.
And like faggot here said, definitely update your drivers and see if it works better.

So I suspected it before but after I updated drivers earlier today I checked the update option again and it still says I'm running the old drivers. So that's a few times now that I've updated but it tells me I haven't/it's not installing them even after I restart my computer. Do I have to do something special for vcard drivers to install them other than just downloading and restarting.

They just turned my dsl off so I went to wall mart and got one of those usb wifi adapters and am getting free wifi atm how hard are they to detect and my signal stays very low is there one that is better or there is a better way i can get signal with this one
