Super Smash Bros. Brawl Button Lag

So, this is a problem I've been experiencing for a while and I was seeing if I could get some tips from any tournament/seasoned players on BG:

While using any type of controller, wired or wavebird -- almost all of them have what I've researched as 'button lag.' There's a noticeable delay when you press any button or move any joystick. It almost makes the game unplayable.

Is this a speed problem with my HDTV or something else? I have AV cables somewhere that I could try, but it's currently all hooked up with Wii component cables. I've seen plenty of SSBB tournaments, and they've mostly all used projectors.. with component cables. However, I do have a 120Hz LED TV, which is why I'm speculating a refresh/speed issue.

Would AV cables help me? Or is it the TV completely? I've also read that it might work better on VGA, thoughts?

It's got nothing to do with the cables most likely. I'm willing to bet that your TV just has too much input lag. If you have a CRT lying around anywhere give it a go with that. Or if you have a monitor that can somehow connect to your cube/wii you might be able to get away with that.

This is a good read: http://www.displaylag.com/what-is-in...the-breakdown/

It also has a database on a lot of HDTVs and their input lag.

So yeah, my TV probably has somewhere between 20ms-30ms of input lag. @Deadgye -- there's no difference in cables? For example, my N64 or other retro consoles have no input lag, running off of AV.

If there's a difference in input lag between cables it's because your TV is most likely doing some processing on certain input sources to upscale the image or something.
