Seems like Eurogamer had an interview with Miyamoto and he says that Pikmin 4 is very close to completion, but the whole interview was embargoed

Pikmin 4 is in development and "very close to completion", Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto has exclusively confirmed to Eurogamer.

"We can confirm that Pikmin 4 is in development but that is all we can confirm at present."

The last title in the garden strategy series, Pikmin 3, launched for Wii U back in 2013.

Miyamoto did not specify the platform that Pikmin 4 would launch on.

I don't see how it could possibly not be for the WiiU if it's "very close to completion", but I don't know anything about game development. Don't they need to know the fine details of their platform to do some of the finer details of development?

I guess you could claim they DO know the specs for the NX, and they're trying to release the next console with a decent software library at launch, aaaaaaaaaaaand now I'm talking myself out of my initial convictions.

Dev kits tend to be out far in advance or stable enough they can do "last minute" optimizations based on finalized specs of the public models.
