Is it possible to switch nations ala XI somehow?

I'm going to assume even if it's possible you cant re-do the main mission, get the nation ring, etc, but I just feel dirty being an LL resident.

I know it's easy enough to just sign up for a GC in another nation, but that doesn't change the characters allegiance (or does it?).

I've noticed that you won't see any allegiance indication until you join a Grand Company. I'm going to check real quick.

Edit: I see what you are talking about - under Character Profile > City-State Allegiance. I was looking at the LS but it only shows your GC allegiance.

I presume it will be something added in the future, but they don't want people just hopping between all three right from the get-go.

Anyone remember if you could switch right from the launch of XI?

I hope we can change it. That city-state allegiance determines your hunting log. I have LL allegiance, but I am a Twin Adder, and want to buy property in Gridania. I don't want to be tainted by LL!

I'm not sure but in XI it didn't matter, you could choose which city you started in. That is the main problem with it here.

I did not even realize that the starting nation determined where you could buy property. Holy crap, I am Ul'dah and do not want desert property. Really, either of the other two would be preferable. I definitely hope to change that :/

Ratchet, maybe when they change ability to switch nations they'll also make it so you can choose nations. Have they addressed this in any Live Letters? I would imagine that someone has griped about the fixed nation setting they currently have; whether or not it made it into a Live Letter, I do not know. Would be good to ask, though!

I wasn't aware of the property or hunting log thing either.
More and more I wish I had just gone archer and opened the ACN quest right away by just walking to LL.

I wonder what the majority of people rolled ACN out o the gate? I know it feels like LL is full up with nuclear rabbits everywhere, and when I finally road the airship to the other nations, they were almost empty.

Just that alone means higher congestion around the LL areas. The option to switch nations needs to be suggested to SE :E

The lower levels aren't determined by your allegiance, they're determined by the mobs that are nearest to the guild where that job is based. Is this a higher-rank thing?

I start as a Marauder. I'm Limsa-Lominsan.

I work through the story long enough to leave Limsa-Lominsa. I go to Gridania to get some of that hot Lancer action going on.

The hunting log for Lancer starts in The Black Shroud. I'm still Limsa-Lominsan.

It isn't because even if you start in Limsa as say a Marauder, if you then switch to Gladiator their hunting log is based around Ul'Dah. Hunting Log is based on Class Guild location not which city you start in.

Sorry, I was thinking of when you start the game that duh all of the guilds are near the mobs because the guilds are in the city. I didn't think that each job's unique log is based on their respective city. Makes sense now.

For the main story you can just watch all the cutscenes from that nations inn anyway. So as long as the property isn't locked shouldn't really matter except for lolstarting ring.

No, they are not the same.
Hunting log is job base/ guild base.

If you got Archer, Conjurer, Lancer, check the hunting log, and they required different mobs.
Further to higher ranking on hunting log, your mob list will spread over different places base on your jobs, not starting city.
