The freshly turned 50 (for the first time) thread

I hardly played 1.x and got started on a non-legacy server with some friends. As more and more of us are now getting 50 (or close) I realize that we actually know pretty much nothing regarding what are the next steps.

So you get to 50, finish your story quest. What's from that point ? Ifrit HM ? Also people seem to have difficulties getting the Lt rank from their GC. More quests needs to be done after you complete your GC Rank2 hunting log ?

I'd like this thread to be for questions/information regarding the freshly turned 50 players.

Run A. Keep for lieutenant rank. Buy lvl 50 weapon. Unlock relic quest. Run ifrit till you get weapon in the meantime. Farm tomestones from dungeons.

This is what I'm gathering anyway, new to 50 myself.

I feel about the same way as you do, if not even more confused at what to do in this new game

A. Keep ? That's an instance you unlock by doing lvl 50 stories ?
What kind of 50 weapon you buy ?

I'd start with running ifrit hard and doing wanderers palace. Amdapor keep is a bit tough and you really need a decent weapon to get through it. Regardless of what people say, you need to be able to burn down golems on the first boss and burn down the gnats + wall on the second. Final boss, not too sure here, but after the fourth statue pops you have no where to hide from his aoe move. Assuming it'll kill you if you don't kill him by the 5th time he uses it(never had that issue). Do everyone a favor and run through wanderers at least a dozen times and do a few hard ifrits before doing amdapor or garuda. It'll give you some experience and let you know if you're ready for anything harder, as both of those are very very easy.

Farm Amdapor Keep and don't bother too much with Ifrit Hard or Wanderer's Palace.
Wanderer's Palace isn't really easier than Amdapor Keep especially if you run with a group of friends that can learn and the weapon drops from Ifrit are only slightly better than the lvl50 Grand Company ones.
I would only do Wanderer's Palace because Tonberrys are awesome and to get the minion pet.

Are http://xivdb.com/?item/1730/Verdant-Hora acceptable for ampador? Been spamming ifrit hard and wanderer with no luck, with ifrit being more of a crap shot than anything.

There is a trick to get Ampador clear without actually doing the dungeon, click party in progress and just wait until 3/4 bosses down, you will port in, last boss should be dead and you can port out and get credit. However dungeon isn't too bad, as long as your group doesn't suck.

Edit: Also any tips for making gil at 50? I am not sure what I should be doing to make money, are there daily quests or leves that give gil?

Level your sub jobs for the correct cross class abilities, when i was complaining about SCH being shit with pets dying, Swiftcast instantly made this easier, also instant cast combat res. Only when someone mentioned it on this forum did I realise that ability even existed and it was so strong, maybe people should put together a list of really nice cross class abilities for us first timers?

Well, after a few tries I gotta say ampador is hardly doable with a team of fresh 50. I don't know if Ifrit is easier or not - you can probably get carried easier since its a 8 people fight - but I seem to hugely lack DPS for this instance.

Kinda suck to lack dps to do either instance/fight that'll help you... gain dps.

Lnc34 is on my to-do list now thanks to samuels post. Didn't think there would be a purpose for it to be past 15 as I thought previously.

If you can do Ampador then there is no reason for you to loose at ifrit unless you get really bad players

Exactly my experience with the place. DPS is a huge problem with fresh 50's. To everyone saying just run it as soon as you hit 50, duno if you're running with friends but through DF it's usually a shit show. Do wanderers palace for a while, collecting tokens, and trade those in for darklight gear. Ifrit should be easy so long as people stun the eruptions. He does the same pattern over and over, and just have a blm LB for the nails. You'll get tokens off him too but not as many as wanderers.
