GTX 780 Leaking Oil

I went into my pc for some dusting and noticed a thin line or liquid under my gpu on the motherboard. I started to freak out, thinking it was water. Upon closer inspection and me touching it, I found it to be some type of oil. I then realized it may be coming from my GPU's heatpipes. I have never encountered this before. My PC seems ot still run as normal, but it can be a forewarning of something bad. Anyone know what this is?

it looks like oil, without actually touching it of course I cant know. I would pop the card, do a full wipe down of it then see if you can find a break in the line. if it continues I would get it RMAed since it means the unit will fail at some point in the future

I have never heard of oil leaking from a graphics card? Could it be condensation or make defective thermal paste liquefying?

Yeah, I heard some stuff about it possibly being excess thermal paste leaking out. I am considering getting a 780 ti while i rma it, then return the 780 ti when i get my RMA'd card back.

Don't do this. This really just makes you a douche. The reseller at that point CANNOT sell it as new and takes a hit on their profit or even a loss. Most companies have some form of advance shipment service where they send a replacement and just put a hold charge on your credit card for the cost of the part until they get the bad one back. It ends up costing you about the same or less (no chance of a possible restocking fee).

F that. I bought it from newegg. If they had not have sent me a PoS card in the first place, then we wouldnt be having this issue.

You could have bought the card from absolutely anywhere and it would have had the same problem. It's not NewEggs fault the manufacturer provided them with a faulty card. You wanna look for someone to blame, look at MSI. Also, don't but MSI. They suck.

It looks to me like only one of your fans has this oily residue on it or the majority of the oil. Can you confirm this?

At first I was like "dis mofucka trippin" but then I realized that the fans probably have a lubricant for the bearings and that could be leaking and running down the fans causing the fans to throw the oil onto the motherboard and you could check and see if theres oil in a 360 degree arc that would suggest that the liquid is being thrown from the fan in all directions and not just onto your motherboard.

I can't think of any other oil that would be in the construction of a graphics card...

I'm really curious to know what the outcome of this was.

A little late to the thread but I'm surprised that no one has mentioned that this is usually an indication of a crack in the heat pipe that transfers heat from the gpu to the rad to be dissipated by the fan. Heat pipes do actually contain a liquid that functions similar to a refrigerator whereas the liquid absorbs heat then turns into a gas moving along the inside of the tube eventually condensing at the cooler side where it gives up it's heat. As far as I'm aware the liquid itself is usually just distilled water in a vacuum so it turns into a gas at a lower temperature then normal.
