Didn't see a thread for it, just caught up on it... it's no Wire, but goddamn what a great show.
Cannot wait for S2.... probably after Game of Thrones finishes its S1 run?

I avoided it since nothing pisses me off more than stereotypical New Orleans BS, but this is the second time I have heard good things about it.
will this show make you never want to go to there? lol, after watching the entirety of the wire, im positive that if i ever go to baltimore, ill be high on herion in 15 mins and dead in 20 lol
The only unrealistic thing about this show is white people don't live in the damn Treme, lol. It is about as close as any show as ever came to getting New Orleans, the creators really do good research and get it right for the most part.
You either get New Orleans or you don't, it would be hard to get into this show if you don't get it though.
And it's narrated by Weezy so you know it's serious.
Uh, all the shit The Wire showed about Baltimore is in West Baltimore (except corrupt politics which is citywide and the shit @ the ports in S2), most of the rest of the city as they showed it is fine/no different than other inner cities. The Wire showed true love for the city and Treme amps this up 1000x, the Wire had some DC/Baltimore rappers and actors, but watching Treme is a who's who of NO jazz and in a few episodes that focus on the restaurant, about the food scene as well. Definitely watch it though, the creator has made a career of subverting stereotypes in movies/tv.
Also, as for white people living there, the Treme isn't getting gentrified the way EVERY other awesome neighborhood in any city has been? Only the gay guys/steve zahn(whose character thinks of himself as basically black anyways..)
bamping... anyone watchimg S2 after thrones? Some of the new plotlines are quite boring, but Anthony Bourdain's writing the restaurant stuff this season.
YO ZARAKI YOU MY NIGGA AND ALL THAT BUT I WATCHED THE FIRST TWO EPS OF SEASON 1 AND BESIDES BUNK AND FREAMON BEING IN IT I DID NOT HAVE ANY INTEREST.
Slim Charles arc starts in ep 3 and Prezbo shows up in ep 4 I think and has been around this season too Keep watching nigra. Also Bunk gets more like McNulty w/ each ep and Freamon is like everyones dad again by mid season.
lol I am interested now, must hear Slim Charles' voice
ok i will now watch it in its entirety
lol
What the fuck is this show about? There's next to no info about it on its IMDB page aside from the tagline and Cast/Crew. All I've been able to figure out while avoiding spoilers is it is set in New Orleans and has a lot of stuff people who don't live there won't catch.
It's hard to describe if you haven't seen The Wire. If you have, imagine that, but its in post Katrina New Orleans and not Baltimore, and there's no criminal investigation/wire tap to tie everything together.
It's basically New Orleans post-Katrina, focusing on a few different characters from various walks of life who are interconnected (sometimes unknowingly). It deals with lots of shit across politics, music, cops, prisons, restaurants, there's no unified plotline really, just how the characters interact with real events post Katrina. The pace is quite slow, but the payoff was worth it in S1 imo and yeah theres tons of cameos from NOLA food/music people (John Besh, Kermit Ruffins, John Boutte, etc.) and the restauranteur storyline also has lots of NYC foodie ppl too that you'd probably recognize from Top Chef/Food Network.
Last episode was real good, those guys do great research. You see Zapp's potato chips all over, thats a real local brand of chips. Oliver Thomas, the guy Jon Seda goes to see a lot @ city hall, he was a real politician who eventually got arrested for a backwater scheme a few years later. The fat white guy they show at the radio station where Davis was D&J'ing at is a local actor nicknamed SPUD(I've met him before, he is awesome) who also has a daily radio show on WWL870am from 1-4pm.
Eddie Jordan was the district attorney at the time, he was an utter failure at the job, he stepped down I think in 2008 or so.
The actors say New Orleans right, its not New Ore leans as in lean. It sounds more like New Ore lins, thats how the locals say it.
Dangizer Bridge is also a real thing that went down during the storm.
The Saints scene in the bar in NY was fucking awesome, that is so typical seeing Saints fans invade a bar on away games starting the who dat chant.
http://www.deadline.com/2012/07/boar...e-september-1/HBO also said the 10-episode Season 3 of its New Orleans-set drama series Treme will debut Sunday, September 23 at 10 PM. Wendell Pierce, Khandi Alexander, Clarke Peters, Rob Brown, Steve Zahn and Melissa Leo star.
