Consider Senn 558s for 130-ish or the previous version the Senn 555s that are discontinued but still a great deal used for $100. Toss in a cheap $10 clip-on microphone cheap and you'll be just as operator as the guy dropping 250+ for some Astro A40s. I own both and they function equally, just my A40s can plug into consoles, has an amp included, and fits my head much nicer.

I have had some EXCELLENT luck with this, have had it almost a year now and no problems other than one funkeh day when FFXI music bled though when I was using Trillian to talk on Skype (but I can legit blame trill for that; It doesn't do it on the real skype), if you don't mind a cord and it plugging into your sound ports. AND I have a rambunctious 4 year old niece that's yanked on one ear at least once. (I told her if she touched it (since I blame her for breaking my last pair of headphones), I'd spank, but she did it anyway.)

Cordless, I dunno. If you want more expensive or USB, I'm sure others have better ones, but I like my Plantronics headset for utility. ^^

You *can* plug your A40 straight to your audio jack out but it brings the sound quality down to mediocre at best. Plus the amp's back has different format support like micro-USB, coaxial, and optical.

Bumpg this thread for some support with my A40s and mixamp. I got it so I can get audio from my PS3 and Laptop at the same time. Is there a way to run the optical cord from the ps3 and have the mic work on my laptop?

Could depend if you have an older Mixamp Pro that has a mic out port as the newer one does not. Could also try having the optical to the PS3 with the USB to the laptop if you have the new Mixamp Pro.
