Windows 10 to have package manager OMG LINUX IS DED

    http://www.extremetech.com/computing...of-linux-users

Sorry, penguin lovers — if you thought that 2015, in the heinous wake of Windows 8, would finally be the year of desktop Linux, you were sadly mistaken. Microsoft is trying its best to make Windows 10 the dream OS for the billions of people around the world who use a desktop PC with a mouse and keyboard — and, as a result, this means Windows 10 will actually come with a package manager. Yes, in Windows 10 you can open up a command line shell and install VLC or Firefox or thousands of other packages by typing in a single command.
I enjoy all the comments to the article as well. I'm 50/50 on Windows and Linux so I don't care either way.

As long as it's not only the metro version of the apps that you can install this way, heh.

    No it's not. That was Windows 8. 7(not cursed) 8(cursed) 10(AKA 9 - Not cursed).

The rumor going around was that they skipped 9 due to bad legacy 3rd party code checking for 95 or 98.
Here's an article that gives that rumor, with a couple others. http://www.extremetech.com/computing...-not-windows-9

My complaint with their numbering scheme is the NT versions. Sync them up already! Don't call it Windows 8.1, but make me look for updates for version 6.3.

I've seen that rumor as well, makes sense. That it also puts it one version farther from 8 probably helped. I think they are ready to pretend 8 never happened just like vista. (though I think 8 is fine myself)

Vista wasn't bad after SP1. Basically between Windows XP and Windows 7 in terms of features (Windows Vista). One thing Vista has over 7 is no forced auto arrange in folders. For the most part though, with some tweaks and registry edits, you can make Windows 7 basically feel and look exactly like Windows Vista without any hassle. Windows 7 was actually in development before Windows Vista (Vista was sort of just a beta for 7 since it was a branch). Windows 8 however, it just broke so many things that weren't problematic in the first place just because. Vista was bad because of bugs, not because of intentional things (the UI, theme, etc are all fairly nice). 7 to 8 was like they revamped things that weren't broken in the first place (yes, you can put a start menu in the desktop but the start menu's search isn't as good as 7 and before).

To be fair, outside of the Start Menu redesign in Windows 8, you can mostly use the desktop and pretend it's still Windows 7 for the most part.

I like they are changing the start menu back to more like Windows 7 and before (easier and faster to use and search for stuff).

My biggest complaint about Windows 8 is them taking out Aero Glass. It's an OS but I would like it if they support multiple themes for Windows (like if I used Firefox, I could just install an addon easily to make it look like Firefox 2.0). Not sure if it posssible in Windows 8 but I have my Windows 7 (files, fodders, etc) to have the "list" view of things when I have multiple instances of a fodder or a browser open (for the taskbar).

I know a lot of people didn't like Aero Glass but it is one of my favorite styles of UI. I like the transparency and glass theme in Vista and 7 a lot. Makes my desktop feel nice and cozy. It'd be cool if they add multiple theme support for an OS. I'm talking first party support too (I don't want to deal with third party stuff that may not work properly or get broken by windows update). I'd pay $100 to be able to use Aero Glass on newer versions of Windows through windows market place or whatever (Microsoft if you are reading this) >.>.

Biggest issue with Vista is that it was a HOG. 7 was a slimmed down version of Vista. So it was better in that aspect.

From an IT support standpoint, this is awesome! This will make installing software much easier, and beats having to go out to websites and click through the a bunch of ads and confirms.
