Tesla to unveil affordable Model 3 on March 31st

The long awaited Model 3 will make its debut next month. This is somewhat of a big deal for some people as the Model S is pretty expensive ($70k for the base model)

The base price of the Model 3 is rumored to be $35,000 which once you start throwing in all of the incentives ($7,500 Federal Tax Credit + State incentives), puts the car below the $30k mark. No news on the specs (battery size, range, options) as of yet.

Same here. The incentive given here in California is $2,500 so with the Federal Tax Credit, it knocks $10k off the price making the base $25,000.

how realistic is it to own a tesla if you don't own a home (for a charging station)?

I can't imagine there is much charging infrastructure around the country at the moment

It's getting easier, but still difficult. If you were to live near a super charger station, it wouldn't be that bad as it can get you up to 80% charge in a Model S in about 20 minutes.

Saw this today on C&D. Been eagerly awaiting the unveil of the Model 3. If it's half as good looking as the Model S it will be my next sedan.

On the charger front Elon said they're planning on adding 300 more charging stations this year.

That is way more charging stations than I would have thought existed. What even pays for them if they are free to use? Just the people buying the cars?

I've heard it's more about making the stations more available and eliminating the arguments against range.

I'm assuming the answer is yes, but can Teslas be charged at non-Tesla charging stations?

Tesla vehicles are also compatible with pay-per-use public charging stations using the included J1772 adapter. Plugshare is an online electric vehicle community where members share the location of convenient chargers and outlets.

I would love to get a more affordably priced Tesla. We have a couple charging stations at my work. It would be pretty sweet to charge up while working. My wife does need a new car soon.

actually, i could've sworn musk said he wanted to go for the model E just for that reason, but ford stole it from them and so they had to go for the 3 instead.
