Can't wait. I thought the other ones were really good, and also enjoy the originals. I feel like they are killing it with the new horror films these days, along with getting a bunch soon in 2021.

Looks brutal. Can't wait. Hopefully they bring Carpenter back for the soundtrack. He killed it last movie.

    Ok so

    This movie is a banger

But like, be aware going in that this is very much a Part 2 of 3.

It also probably helped that I saw the first one 2 hours before watching this.

    Some more details:

    Spoiler: show
This one had more issues than the first, but the good stuff up front:

Greene is really, REALLY good at getting you to care about people you only see on screen briefly.

The atmosphere is genuinely tense throughout. Almost all the kills are much, much more brutal than the first. Maybe more than any previous Halloween. Only one or two characters ever feel "safe."

The Shape is perfect here, and the entire movie is generally well-acted.

    The less-good:

There's an extended sub-plot inside the hospital that just isn't as good as the rest of the movie, and it goes on for awhile.

This movie has a lot of "dumb" deaths, people dying because they're stupid rather than because Michael is an unstoppable monster.

There's a bit at the end where Michael survives that ok, I'm fine with, but the way he kills his way out of it is... eh. It was less believable. Or maybe chalk this one up under the "dumb" deaths.

Even though the ending will leave you wanting more, it is definitely the ending of a movie intended to have a sequel.

    I feel the same.

    Spoiler: show
I like how the townsfolk basically lose their shit (reminded me of Halloween 4), but the mental patient scene just felt out of place in a way. I get they were trying to show that Laurie's obsession can be infectious, but it did nothing for her character. I wanna say they're setting up Allyson to be a vengeful character, especially since both of her parents are dead now but it looked like her leg got broken. Next movie will probably pick up right after this one so I guess it's still-wounded Laurie vs an unstoppable killing machine?

The flashback scenes were pretty cool and they did a good job on CGI Loomis. So glad they didn't try to add in another doctor character. Felt that was the weakest part of the last movie. But yeah, pretty good but overall felt like filler before the finale.

Edit: rewatching it and Michael just walking off after officer Hawkins shoots his partner is just weird. Like Michael filled his quota and cashed in for the night. The first present time killing of the old couple was pretty fucking brutal though.

This movie was a banger and it’s Michael like you’ve never seen him before. He pretty much shoots up the list of pure badass. Agreed with everything above. Some pretty funny social commentary.

spoiler tagging for discussion of (potential) part 3 timeline
    Spoiler: show
    https://uproxx.com/movies/david-gord...alloween-ends/
So the third movie one, is it still going to jump ahead a little bit? Is this true? I think I read that.

Yeah. It jumps into a contemporary timeline. So we go from two episodes that are the same night in 2018. And then we’ll get up to speed with … It’ll take place the time of its release.

So do you incorporate things that have happened in the real world since then, like what we’re going through now? Would that be part of it?

    Yeah.

I guess there are going to be more masks around.

So if you think about it, I mean, where we’re leaving these characters on Halloween 2018, the world is a different place. So not only do they have their immediate world affected by that trauma, having time to process that trauma – and that’s a specific and immediate traumatic event in the community of Haddonfield. But then they also had a worldwide pandemic and peculiar politics and another million things that turned their world upside down.
not sure about that one, but the first two have been fun so I'm reserving my judgment for now

    Lol oh man

    Spoiler: show
I can't wait for the "keep politics out of my Halloween!" crowd. Honestly, I'm hoping it makes fun of both anti-vaxx/maskers and hardcore germaphobes alike. Too bad Karen is gone. Imagine her during a pandemic.

Does Halloween need the assistance of current political/social/economic features or situations to be implemented to tell its story though? Ham fisting that kind of shit into movies has, from what I can tell, mostly been avoided on the big screen. It’s probably for the better to preserve a bit more longevity out of the story, no? The original Halloween was set in the middle of the Vietnam war but I don’t remember there being the presence in the story although that was probably a daily major headline at the time the story takes place.

If it helps tell the story sure. If it’s inserted just because it takes place in “2021/2022” that’s stupid imo.

    Spoiler: show
I kinda rolled my eyes a little bit at the end when they all surrounded him lol I KNEW he was going to limit break and murder em all. Sorta wish it was shown more in full and not sliced up the way it was but it was still good.

My only complaint was did he use a warp scroll at the end or something. He ninja'd past everyone and it felt really quick.
