I...am cautiously optimistic. That looks pretty damn good.

I saw the notice pop up on discord, and I was all "Is this an Aliens movie, or is it a Star Trek movie, tf?"

This might as well be called, "Alien: The Remake" but fuck it count me in. All the ones after Alien 3 sucked.

Yeah, bought tickets about a month ago for me and a buddy of mine for tomorrow at 7. Looking forward to a good Alien movie.

Back from the movie. Need to digest it a little bit more. Overall really enjoyed it, but there were certainly some decisions in that 3rd act I'm not sure how to feel about lol.

I felt wildy uncomfortable and anxious during the final act, so I guess it was mission accomplished in that regard.

I will say though, except for one specific instance of some... let's say subpar CGI (you will know what I mean if/when you see it) the entire audio/visual experience for this was incredible

When Ash first shows up and he starts booting up? I thought that was the worst visual shot of the movie, personally. I also get why they used him to be the exposition narrator in a sense, but it felt kind of lazy. To use him. Nobody else lived and Ripley was off ship already. What else could they do? As soon as I saw the body in the dark I knew it was him. I'm also not entirely sure how I feel linking all the Prometheus crap with this. Even though it is canon, I could have done without it. BUT that alien/engineer hybrid is the stuff of nightmares. Fuck me.

Smaller issue I have is none of the characters were really that memorable. Andy the android? I guess. But I could tell you each and every character or descriptor from Alien(s). They tried to do archetypes in this. Just did *not* work for me though.

The zero g acid blood scene was too good. Very creative.

overall though, best alien movie in a looooooong time. Really enjoyed myself.

I don't have an IMAX close by, but it was a fairly large screen + Atmos, and it was great so I'd recommend it.

Seconding on probably the best Alien movie since the first 2. Also I really can't stress enough how unsettling the final act is. I've been out of the theatre for about 30 minutes now I'm still feeling squirmy from it

Considering what people want from an Alien movie can likely translate that to being a great success

Other thing now that I'm thinking about it, it's very clear that Fede Alvarez really really enjoyed Alien Isolation. This movie was definitely borrowing a lot of the visual cues from it even down to the save stations appearing in a bunch of scenes in the background.

Hoo boy, that third act was something. Great movie though, and I won't complain if Fede Alvarez gets to do more.

Yeah, I was into the movie until that happened.

    Spoiler: show
They shouldn't have rushed that whole thing, I get what they were going for but doing it in basically the last 10 minutes rather than using an entire movie to explore the concepts was a mistake.

Overall though, the most enjoyable Alien movie I've seen in a while.

Yeah, I liked it but if I was gunna be nit picky, I could've done without
    Spoiler: show
The CGI deepfake Ash. I get why they did it and I'm glad they got the families blessing to do it but it was so distracting imo and the final line by Andy... "get away from her" "...you bitch" there was a lot of groans in my theater with that bit lol

Overall, I enjoyed it, but the final act definitely didn't work for me. Probably the best Alien movie since Aliens, maybe on par with Alien 3. Andy was the standout, had to look up David Jonsson on IMDB, but he's been in nothing I've so much as heard of. Looking forward to seeing more of that actor.

Agreed about the poor CGI issue.
    Spoiler: show
I liked them bringing back Ash's model for sure, as they've established that's a thing already with the Bishop series. But the CGI just wasn't there; once Ash transferred live to primarily on a screen, it worked much better, and I think that's probably why they did that, for the most part. I did notice they picked another chess piece for the android's name, as also noticed that Dragon Age: Veilguard's reveal of the main character being named Rook happened basically the same day, which is a weird coincidence.

"Get away from her ... you bitch" was kind of the moment the movie lost me. While the movie was good, for the most part, but the final act was too much fan service. Andy, of all people, had absolutely no business saying that line. From that line to the lead actress walking around in her (admittedly less revealing) underwear, to the hybrid alien reminiscent in concept to the hybrid from Resurrection, but vastly superior in execution, was too deliberate of a direct reference. Also, from the moment we found out the other woman was pregnant (which otherwise had no effect on the plot or her capabilities), I knew something gross was going to result from that, which I found annoying that they couldn't resist that and her self-injection seemed so contrived.

I did, upon a little research, notice that the actress who played the pregnant woman on Romulus is playing Dina on The Last of Us, and that seems like a good fit.

Finally saw this. My God that final act creeped me the hell out. Really enjoyed it though, hope they release another one sooner than 7 years from now.
