I've been having some problems for about a week with my ISP at home, and I noticed it while I was out of town unable to remote home to check on things. I'm not really sure how to explain it, but I'll try my best:
Internet: If I load a new webpage, about 75% of the time it will just hang on loading and usually one page refresh will load it up, sometimes needing two. Some sites that have multiple connections are more problematic. ie: loading a page on youtube will take a couple tries, but once I'm connected and its loaded up, its fine, I can play through a 2hr video without issue.
Gaming: Heres the one that irks me, as an XI multiboxer. It takes me anywhere between 3 to 8 tries to get one character logged in through POL, and this isnt exactly the most streamlined process. And even then, once I'm in, every time I zone is a risk of getting booted, and once I get booted, that zone becomes a dead zone for that character. I tried doing Delve last night, and lost 2 of 3 characters just zoning into Foret.
I've tried all the hardware troubleshooting I could:
Persists on two separate PC's
I've tried changing DNS
I've tried different network cables
I've tried removing my router from the equation
Restarted router/modem
However, I found some shitty public VPN to troubleshoot or quick-fix things (yes I'm aware of all the security issues), and literally all the problems go away, other than being kinda laggy cause its a shitty public VPN. Sites load on first try, I can log into every character on first try and theres no risk of dead zones.
So that leads me to believe the problem exists outside my walls and with my ISP. My question is why does the public VPN make all the problems go away, and if I switch my ISP if the issues will continue to exist?
