I saw that this is going to be available for PS2 and PSP. Will it be playable on PS3 as well? I don't even know where my PS2 is, lol.
Full 100% patch with no early releases? Fuck no. Not worth getting excited for for now, but it's nice to know there's a team out there working on a game that isn't fucking Phantasia. At least Rebirth is pretty short. Half the lines being KUREA should help shorten translation time too.
Unlikely. Even if your PS3 is backwards compatible with PS2 games, there's no way to play backups/ISOs (yet?!) so you'll likely be outta luck regardless.
So how would one play something like this? Is it a case where you emulate the game on PC or something? As you can tell, I'm not familiar with this at all.
PS2 capable of playing backups, decent PC that can emulate it or a PSP (they say they're working on both versions, but it sounds like they're having some issues with the PSP one so maybe they'll drop support for it at some point, I hope not though).
I haven't tried emulating Rebirth (since I'd rather play the PSP version), but I had no problems emulating Tales of Destiny:R on this 5~ year old laptop. Given that Rebirth is 2D too, it probably won't require too beastly a PC to play. Just a case of whether or not the PS2 emulator supports it well, there's a few games that it just refuses to run properly I believe, hopefully Rebirth isn't one of them.
I knew my modded PS2 was a worthy investment! I think I got maybe half-way through the game a couple years ago but haven't touched it in forever. I liked the weapon upgrade system as well.
"No release date yet"
AKA never
My understanding was that there's already a full script/translation guide out there on GameFAQs, yeah? Not sure how accurate it is, though.. but maybe these guys could collaborate and have much of the work done?
Edit: Nevermind, question answered. They said they're using it for a reference point.
No shit there's no release date, it's a fan translation, it's done when it's done. The point was that there's people actually working on it.
So unless Bamco disrupts things by releasing Rebirth over here (which would be a good thing,) this will eventually be finished. Be it a year from now, two years, or even 5 or 10 years. It will be playable without having to deal with moon runes, and that's enough to excite me.
Moonspeak never really bothered me that much though it does make the plot hard to follow. I found it interesting that Nobuyuki Hiyama didn't do nearly as much screaming as he usually does.
GAO... GAI... GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!
Too busy being a whiny faggot. Also always relevant in Rebirth discussion.
Uh, no.
A lot of "fan translations" aren't completed because they aren't really fan translations. One person thinking he's gonna learn to leet hax and translate a game by himself, isn't really a "fan translation," and isn't going to succeed.
This group has actual hackers, and seems to have already tackled one of the bigger hacking roadblocks that translations usually face. (Fonts)
I've seen many, many fan translations fall by the wayside, and it's happening more and more often as the emulation scene evolves to take on bigger and better (but exponentially more difficult) systems like the PS2 and even the Wii. think of the number of translated SNES games, and compare that to the number of translated PS2 games.
I'd love to see this get done and I don't know enough about the group to guess one way or the other whether it will, but if blind hope has convinced you this is a sure thing, well we are just two different people in that respect.
of course I'm still bitter that Tales of Hearts is MOTHERFUCKING STILL "in production." it's been years, you assholes! GET IT FINISHED OR GIVE UP. and it doesn't help that the translator is a jerk with a bitter sense of humour who has no qualms against fucking with the fanboys for a laugh.
ahem. sorry. I may have gone off on a tangent there...
I still want my Romancing SaGa 2 patch but I know that ain't happening.
Another thing with ToR is there are a couple parts where you have to enter strings of text in order to advance in the game.
Someone actually working on it, and showing decent promise, is better than crying every night knowing there's no one working on it at all.
Yeah, there's a decent chance this might not get finished, but lol at 95%.
also, the hearts guys already gave up a long time ago, lol edit: I think...
Hearts guys:
- pretended to give up but put a tiny string of text in their page-long rant that said "btw this is just a joke."
- made another entry on their blog a while later titled "Tales of Hearts project DROPPED" when what they really meant to say is that they're "dropping" the original project in order to make a revamped version of ToH with new features. so basically, they're not dropping anything but they wanted to make people think they were
so yeah, they're still on it. latest post was in september and gave some updates. in all honesty I think they will finish, but it sounds like they are taking their sweet time adding new features to the battle system and shit.
