    Proto-Ultima Fight Questions

Is there any more information on the Proto-Ultima fight? Not wanting to waste 3 weeks worth of chip farming, I'm wondering if there is any more information on the fight now. The Temenos Liberated thread has a lot of good information but leaves a couple questions.

What is in the 6 chests? Has anyone tried opening them yet? The fact that there is 6 makes it doubtful they'll drop chips, but maybe they'll have mobs that if you kill you weaken Ultima? Most likely I think they're just a chance to get ancient coins that you got screwed out of on floor 3.

How long is Ultima's AE Terror, how big is the AE on Citadel Buster (I assume you run away once the countdown starts) and is it's draw-in AE or single target? I think I've seen posts saying contradicting things on the last.

Can you run around and open the original 6 chests once Ultima is dead or does the zone exit you or the chests despawn?

I don't remember much, but I'll try my best.

Chests, no idea, we didn't open them.

The range on terror is pretty large, but mages can still stand out of the attack's range and still cast. Citatel Buster will continuously draw in a single target, though others have some time to run away, out of the room was usually safe, but the drawn in target is pretty much guaranteed death.

You can still run around after he is killed, though we opened the chest right away due to lack of time, so I have no idea if the other chests were still up,

All those people that chose not to open the chests will be kicking themselves if it turns out they all contain lots of coins, AF items, time extensions, HP/MP chests to run to during the fight, extra chips, etc.

I could see them containing treature instead of monsters. I can also see them taking 15 minutes off your time remaining...

Thanks for answering Bifton. I can't believe no one has opened any of the chests though? We've done Apollyon twice and won't get to fight Ultima for a week and a half yet, but hopefully we'll get a chest popped at some point, win or lose.

Or maybe it will add 15 minutes to your time remaining.

We've been farming Apollyon mostly, and so will likely do Omega first, but when we do Ultima, hopefully we can just have someone open all the chests while we get ready for Ultima.

The chests are probably a reward for making it to Ultima, given that he takes more Limbus runs to reach, so that you still get something good even if you wipe to Ultima.

That would be good. The 2nd tier Temenos gives shit for coins, getting them at the Ultima fight would be some compensation. It's hard getting people to go through Temenos when they want coins for earrings and capes.

Going to farm some CCB Polymers and give those a try as well. Hopefully those will either stop Citadel Buster or stop it's WS spam at 20%.

The chests from what others have told me (we didnt open them) spawn mobs that have a chance at dropping the colored chips that you need to get to Ultima. The fight isnt that hard till 50% when the hate becomes random. A good idea when Ultima starts using his insta-kill countdown move is to watch his barrier. His hate will not move from the person that he is about to destroy so our blms just ran in and blew the crap out of it till it destroyed it's target and went after another. It changes it's barrier every time it goes to use countdown also.

Edit: btw CCB's dont do anything to ultima. we tried. :D

His barrier? I apparently missed some information somewhere. What's his barrier? I have the chips for this fight, but will not be able to do it until next year. Too much on the calendar between now and our little break at the end of the month.

Here's what I have so far... with some guesses to fill in some blanks from what I've read:

    Temenos Central: Final level
    Crag Holla
Entrance Fee White Card, Orchid Chip, Cerulean Chip, Silver Chip
Chip Drop Random drop off mobs spawned from chests
Notes See Proto-Ultima above. Proto-Ultima will drop a chest when killed which, when opened, will take you out of the area. It may be possible to open the other chests before opening final chest to get chips if there is time remaining.
    Coin Drop Unkonwn

    Proto-Ultima:

Found in Central Temenos: Final level
Time limit inside the zone is 60 minutes
The floor up to Proto-Ultima contains several chests that spawn mobs that can drop Temenos chips
    Immune to CCB Polymer
Straightforward fight until 50% when hate becomes random, last 20% it starts spamming it's weaponskills
Takes 50% damage from magic like Wyrms
    Draws in single target
Will have one of Physical Shield or Magical Shield up and will change which is up at certain points
    Moves include:
Antimatter: 1500 single-target ranged damage through utsusemi
Wirecutter: High damage melee attack that goes through utsusemi, (additional effect paralyze like Ultima?)
Cryojet: AE Damage + Paralyze (Ice, frontal)
Smoke Discharger: AE Damage + Petrify (Earth, frontal)
Turbo Fan: AE Damage + Silence (Wind, frontal)
Hydro Cannon: AE Damage + Poison (Water, frontal)
Flame Thrower: AE Damage + Virus (Fire, frontal)
Target Analysis: AE stat drain (as per Trinary Tap etc.)
Chemical Bomb: AE slow + carnege elegy
Citadel buster: Devestating targetted AE move preceded by a countdown, agro won't change once countdown starts, Shield will switch to other immunity when countdown starts as well
AE that removes buffs + Terror
Toxic Waste: AE lowers resistances by 50, uneraseable
Random target Holy II that does ~1000 damage

I don't know what Arlania meant by having the BLM "run in" since Citadel Buster is AE. I guess it's small enough AE that you can nuke it and still not be hit?

Anyway, sounds like a brutal fight. Why couldn't Omega be the one that drops the mage armor?

Citadel buster takes 30 seconds to go off. They could run in, ES/Aincient if they wanted and still get away in time.

cause the one that requires more work drops the better stuff, a rare time that SE actually did something right regarding items.
