How do you setup ur MH?

Last night I attempted to synth a Vcloak(lvl 70) on Lightsday 60% moon. Considering I am 92.6+2+3 I thought I would have a chance for an HQ, but nope critical fail >< 8mil out the window I swear I am the unluckiest SOB to craft Vcloaks considering I have CFd 2/3 synths. After being incredibly frustrated I wanted some feedback about how other crafters setup their MH (earth energy?), and how much of an effect does it have on lost items durring a fail?
