so what exactly happens when rescuing an NPC? do you have to talk to someone like a gaurd to flag a quest to save them, or just march in and bust them out? Only reward for rescue is IS?

Just walk in, you see there green npc name in a cage, trade key, and get IS. That's about all there is to prisoners.

fuck farmimg a key.. jsut exp in the area.. there are keys from the VT/IT and then the DC/EM's.

lol that actaully happened while I was mining in there.

There's a mining point in a small room with 3 trolls, So I sent my pet in to kill the first, it's still too dangerous to mine with #2 and #3 there, so after it dies i sent it after the next, and before I get a chance to go to the mining point, there's a tarutaru digging away.

I coulda sworn when I was examining the doors it said "You can open this door/gatethingy using <insert key here> or a pair of thieve's tools"

Which means any tools, not just thief. I personally tested that out

Yes, you can fail a picklock on a jail cell and get weakened. =/
