    FFXI and Dual Monitors

I run a dual monitor setup and would like to have seperate FFXI clients open on each monitor or be able to drag a FFXI window over to the 2nd monitor. However, when i drag FFXI to the 2nd monitor, it is VERY laggy like .5fps laggy. I was wondering if there was some way to get the 2nd monitor accelerated to be able to drag a window over there.

Run seperate video cards perhaps (SLI) would improve your performance.

I do pretty well on dual montors either side but I cant crank 1600x1200 like I do in single screen mode.

are you talking about running 2 seperate ffxi accounts? I think I've seen this done but it might have been 2 seperate PCs beside each other.

second monitors are not hardware accelerated, so you cant run ffxi on them (already tried) so yeah, a second video card is the only way
    I personally dualbox (2 computers)
once people do that they generally never want to dual on one pc ever again

SLI by definition only provides video for one monitor with both video cards handling different parts of the same screen. You'd ideally use a SLI motherboard and not activate the SLI Bridge, so you have 2 PCI-E Cards running independant monitors.

If you don't have that kind of motherboard [or money x.x] you can run a 2nd PCI graphics card. GeForce 6200 PCI isn't horrible for a pci graphics card.

with specific hardware and drivers, you can run widescreen in which both screens are hardware accelerated (games like Quake 3 support dual-head tech, allowing for widescreen gaming)

i know that old matrox parhelia (it flopped) card allowed you to do this, but i know my 9800 pro doesn't

dont bother. ffxi uses CPU for most of the processing so video isnt goingto make a difference. if you seroiusly want to run 2 solid copies yer just gonna have to use a second PC.

If the game is developed to run with different video cards (checking your system and giving you a list of the cards in it) it should work. The DirectX API at least has this in later versions.

FFXI most likely doesn't support it though.

Yes but I'm not sure how a 9700 will support it since it's a bit out of date as far as technology goes. It's usually all in the drivers.

Try downloading the FireGL drivers from ATi and see if that solves your problem.

If you have Catalyst control center, there is an option to enable hardware acceleration on 2nd monitor. it in a sense combines the resolution of both monitors (i.e. 2560x1024). with this you can run a ffxi window on each monitor. only problem with it is that sometimes it will mess up the aspect ratio on other programs.

I did this and never had any trouble >_>

Nvidia 7800 GTX, not overclocked (at the time) or anything special, I saw no difference between the 2 screens.

The only thing that annoyed me was the controller bug where one session goes wacky. I had to unplug USB controller and go all keyboard but never had a problem ever.

I did run the 2nd session at like 800x600, not in fullscreen mode. This might have made a difference, but moving them between screens was 0 issue at all.

    omg i got it!

there is a setting to stretch monitor 1 to monitor 2 without using extended desktop therefore giving monitor 2 the graphics acceleration. thank you!
