    The games people buy

    http://www.next-gen.biz/index.php?optio ... mitstart=5

Top 100 list in 2006 of "Next-Gen" games that were purchased. The list shows amounts sold and the review rating that they received, quite interesting, and it really shows people buy a lot of shitty games lol.
I am still going through it.

Dude parents don't know shit. A lot of little kids have these systems obviously. They go and see cars and love it and buy a shitload of the games.
It really is not that hard to believe.
Other than Madden.. I cannot believe how many more copies that thing sold than everything else.

I figured GoW and FF12 would be way higher than where they are on this list.

BTW, What happened to the "EA SPORTS....BIG" thing at the beginning of all the extreme sports games? Now there's some new guy that sounds like he's been kicked in the balls saying that... and it just sounds kiddie and retarded.

Has anyone else noticed this? I played the new SSX game for the Wii at my cousin's house yesterday and heard it.

A couple years ago: The CEO of EA made a bet with a friend that he could sell the same game to the same morons every year.

Madden has become a hit ever since.

    EA = Super Monopoly

Hell thanks to the PS2/PS3/Xbox 360 they have so many f'n studios, it not even funny. (they just buy small studios out or merge them in to there infrastructure)

When you are dominant in alot of franchises, the games become complacent and just churn out the same bs over and over.

My cousin has Madden '07 for 360/PS3/PS2/Wi. I'm sorry, but WHY THE FUCK DO YOU NEED 4 copies? (Wii has the motion sensing thing I know) It's the same f'n game with maybe better visuals. Seriously that is like $200 wasted on the same game over and over.

Maybe he wants to prove he likes football more than the next video game geek, but he doesn't want to actually go outside.

lol, you would only need the Wii version + 360/ps3 version (I would go with 360 since it looks better...), but why would he need the other two copies? >.>

    I lol'd

By the way, don't diss Lego Star Wars II, that game is fun as hell. And it is obvious why it sold a lot.

Legos: Huge Popularity, not only with children, but also in terms of nostalgia (me) and my peers.

I once bought Mappyland for the NES out of sheer pity. It's plausible that this list is very dead on.

My 2 brothers were PISSED, since we only got like 1 game every 6 months or so lol.

    Edit: loll @ carswtf?

Don't forget that specialized gaming stores like EBGames/GameStop, Fry's Electronics, and the like only account for a small portion of the retail market for computer and video games in North America. It's big chain stores like Wal-Mart, BestBuy/Future Shop, Zellers/K-Mart, Cost-Co, etc. that are the big volume sellers. As video games have become a much more wide-spread consumer purchase it's natural that the vast majority of games purchased will be targeted at 'casual' gamers who comprise a vastly larger market population segment (and tend to have more disposable income) than regular or hard-core gamers. Even though the hard-core fans might have huge libraries of games, their kind falls within less than 10% of the total PC/video game purchasing market. And it's that other 90% of the market that's buying scads of sports games, shitty licensed titles, and kids games because it's whats on the shelves at their local Wal-Mart

Companies like EBGames/GameStop don't use television, radio, or mass-market print advertising to draw in customers like Wal-Mart or Best Buy does. Their business model relies on the hard-core and regular gamers to find them and to advertise specifically to them by using gaming periodicals and internet advertising to get their messages across. They rely heavily on word of mouth and brand recognition through gaming circles (on-line and off) and in a lot of cases just simple walk-by traffic in malls. The walk-by traffic that comes in are often customers buying for other people - parents, reletives, etc - and the idea is that they come in once, see the staff know more than the people at the big-box stores and have better selection than those big places, and will return again. However, if anyone else here has worked at, or even worse managed, an EBGames or BestBuy for any length of time, you know the crappy resources you get stuck with don't always make that good idea possible for execution. Not to mention it's hard to find good staff that are actually effective salespeople from the droves of anti-social nerds that want to work for you just because it's a video game store. "Sorry pee wee, we actually work here not just play games and salivate over box art." Blegh, rant off; that's what I get for choosing EB to be the workplace that puts me through five years of University.
