    Encryption...

Hey guys I think I posted this before but I can't find the topic...

I'm looking for a free program that lets me either:
    A. Encrypt Selected Folder With Good Encryption
    B. Create A Virtual Drive That Is Encrypted

Either way it doesn't matter. I googled it and found some trash (Need some work on keywords I searched "Encryption Tools for Windows" BTW) Thanks for your help BG.

What are you trying to do with it? If its just basic and wanting to keep normal people out, just use the encryption feature windows has.

Should also note that you might want to export the encryption certificates in Windows to a safe place so you'll always be able to decrypt the data, in the event that something disastrous happens.

TrueCrypt is what I use. You mount a virtual drive and put everything you want to encrypt in there; when unmounted, it's just a normal file (and so can be copied around, say, onto a flash drive). Can use passwords for encryption, or use a file/many files as a key, and also supports several different encryption methods (AES, Twofish, Blowfish, some others, and combinations of those).

Eh.. not sure what you want encryption for..

If you just don't want your girlfriend reading sausy letters you get from your other girlfriend you could store them in a password protected zip

If you are trying to protect yourself legally.. I wouldn't put a lot of faith in programs like truecrypt..

Even if does a good job of protecting what you encrypt, I don't trust windows to not keep lots of unencrypted temporary files hanging around of what you are trying to protect or even putting snippets of it into unrelated office documents , BROADCASTING the data in what should be totally 0'd out parts of network traffic, swapping out the data that I am using to disc, etc.

If you're worried about the legal ramifications of getting caught with something.. you just shouldn't have it in the first place If you just want some privacy from other people who use the computer.. I would just use built in encryption already provided in the operating system you use.
