    Good headset

Everyone else gets to ask stupid questions so I guess I will ask mine!

I need a good headset for listening to music and talking on for voip. USB is out of the question. I need it to be strong enough to survive getting sat on, not look retarded, and have amazing audio quality. I would probably take it with me wherever I went in my backpack so being big and clumsy would be bad also.

I wouldn't mind paying $100 if it would last.. I have already wasted a lot of money on ones that I totally hated or broke in a few days so...

bose has some nice ear buds... theyre kinda expensive but they have good quality, they also have some smaller sized headsets that are just slightly bigger than those old flat padded head phones. also cost more than $100, more in the $160 range.

It's not specifically what you're looking for, but in my opinion if you want a good music headphone and something you can speak into, you're going to be getting two anyways.

Headset I don't have much to offer you, but for music / any listening whatsoever I recommend the Bose noise reducing headphones

    http://www.bose.com/controller?event...154&src=k67154

I have a 4-5 year old pair of them, and I hear the newer ones are even better (I don't use mine everyday because they're a bit big, but beach / work / etc they're perfect)

Cannot beat the clarity, and if you honestly want to block out everything around you and be 100% oblivious to life, you turn the noise switch on.

    Wow that's expensive for headphones.

i use the second set (the one on the right). They are good.

edit: but this wasn't what the OP was asking. He wanted a headset with a mic. I use a USB logitech one which isn't so great, I haven't found a headset I really like yet.

Other than the sound quality and noise cancelling properties, probably the best thing about the bose is that they are comfortable. Most headsets I cannot wear for hours as they'll hurt my head/ears but with the bose I haven't had those problems.

I don't know about the new ones, but the ones I have are the first versions of those from long ago, but from what I hear about the new ones you can be in a closed garage with somebody revving a cars engine to full and not hear it if you have the noise reduction on and the sound is up.

Just a small example, they are epic headphones, they really are worth the money.

i have heard a lot of good things about sennheisers, I would read some reviews and there are plenty that aren't too expensive.

I personally only spend a lot of money on regular headphones because those I use to listen to music but headsets I use for voip/ts/vent which i don't care about as much.

I'm not concerned about sound quality so much as microphone quality. I want to sound nice to the person I am talking to. That $1000 bose headset for aviation looks really nice.. but too much to spend for something I will most likely sit on or step on in the next year lol.

That sennheiser set looks nice.. gonna look around on ebay for one cheaper

Since this is a headset topic I'm going to ask here instead of making a new topic:

Anybody got a bluetooth 2.0 headset and know what's the improvement over 1.2? It's supposedly got higher data rate and lower power consumption but I was wondering if this actually translates to better sound/voice quality.

Well.. your voice is never going to travel more than 64kbs across any voice network out there and bluetooth 1.2's datarate far exceeds that. The only thing that will improve your voice quality is the quality of the microphone itself.

It is possible that bluetooth 2.0 might sound better in those edge cases where your 1.2 isn't getting good reception and that might translate to better sound/voice quality but higher datarate won't do jack.

Razer USA Barracuda HP-1 8 Channel Gaming Headphones: 130$

GN Netcom GN 2125 Binaural Flex Noise Canceling Headset: 85$

Only reason i'm saying to go for these is that if you around a comp usa that closing you can get up to 45% off some items.

+ they are some of the better ones i have seen.

The headphones w/ built-in mics are generally crap. You might want to consider a decent set of headphones + a lapel mic instead. I don't have much experience with mics, but I've used a lot of headphones over the years before finally settling with the Beyerdynamic DT880. Beyer's DT770, 880, and 990 headphones are all excellent. You can even customize them on Beyer's site if you want (but they're a lot more expensive that way): http://www.beyerdynamic.com/cms/manufaktur.1456.0.html#.

If you want something more portable (and far cheaper), the Koss KSC-75 offers around 90% of the performance of the DT880 but for only $20: http://<a href="http://www.koss.com/...c</a>^sc^KSC75. Pairing that with an inexpensive lapel mic might work well.

Speaking from personal experience, all the phones I mentioned seriously outperform the Sennheiser HD-280. The 280's isolate very well but are uncomfortable, ugly, and have average sound quality.

I haven't used Bose headphones myself, but they are generally not well regarded among experienced headphone users.

Generally speaking, closed headphones (headphones with the ear-pieces completely sealed) offer better isolation but worse sound quality than open or semi-open designs.

I usually go for Altec Lansing, but I'm not the richest man in the world. Sound and microphone quality are both very good <3, and it'll last you well over a year for that price. More so if you don't sit on it too often (it can tolerate being sit on). You can buy it somewhere else if you want, but I live in Wisconsin, so when I use 3-5 day shipping at Tiger, it gets here the next day. I wouldn't get this headset if you wear glasses, though.
