Online Gamers can now pay with their blood

An online game operator has demanded that banned players donate blood to be allowed back into the game. Moliyo, which runs a 3D massively multiplayer online game in China, made the demand after banning 120,000 players who attempted to hack the game.

More than 100 players had already signed up to exchange half a litre (1 pint) of blood for game accounts. The company has also offered free accounts to ordinary players who give blood

According to the announcement, the players must attend a public blood donation drive in the city of Nanjing tomorrow afternoon. Locked accounts will be reopened within 3 days.

Chinese hospitals have had increasing difficulty attracting blood donors in recent years after scandals in which thousands of donors and blood recipients contracted HIV, the virus which causes AIDS. Blood donors in China are usually paid about 12 dollars per donation.

Moliyo arranged the event in an attempt to “create a civilized society, and enhance online gamers’ appreciation of social responsibility and public welfare.”

The games company banned 120,000 players of the popular game Cabal earlier this month, because they used unauthorized software to artificially boost their standing in the game. Moliyo operates several games in China, including Cabal, and Tales of Pirates.

Back in the '70s or something people would get HIV from transfusions, because it was before they tested for it. Almost never happens anymore from what I heard though.

Totally agree 100%. This is a great, great, great idea. And like someone else said, if Bliz, who has almost 9 million accounts, teamed up with an organization like the Red Cross it would just be crazy.

Also, before you are allowed to give blood the people at the place give you some tests to make sure you're giving "good blood." For example, there are blood drives on my campus everyday, and I went to one once but didn't have enough iron in my blood so I couldn't donate.

But either way, this is a great idea and I hope alot of the players participate.

50 bucks says that if someone tried to do a blood-drive-for-free-gaming event here in the US, our lawmakers would be on that like stink on cheese citing that games will not only ruin our lives, but now, they demand our blood.

Honestly, if I could donate blood each month to pay for my FFXI I would do it in a heatbeat.

PS: lbelle, you better be taking Iron supplements or your anemia could be caused by a host of gastrointestinal disorders like celiac disease (even though it's more of a disorder). Before my father and aunt got diagnosed as celiac they were rediculiously anemic.

Man i can't imagine Bliz doing this with the WoW population. People would be screaming "For the Horde!" all over the donating blood area, and probably a gank or two between ally and horde. Or the worst scenario "WTS Good Blood" "WTT Good Blood" etc....
