FFIII DS
I just started actually playing this (FFVI:A distracted me >_>) and its definetly got that old school difficulty. Is it common to have to grind so you dont get raped every new area you go to? I've only unlocked the first set of jobs, but what kind of powerhouse jobs are available? and why can RDM dual weild o.O lol

All jobs can dual wield!!! a drg with 2 good spears ftw mid game.
Yeah you'll have to level up between each dungeon to not get your ass handed to you. there are a couple of "prime" xp spots that help out. best one i can think of comes a little after 1/2 way (i think) in the under sea cave. close to map to save often, and easy to kill/good xp mobs there. so be on the lookout for other such spots.
powerhouse jobs.... um they suck end game but you'll need enough black magic to equip 2-3 characters as blms, atleast through all of the "mini" dungeons. (remember to "charge" your spells by equiping them and staying at an inn, if you equip magic and don't rest you will have 0 casts ;
early on i used blm, thf, war and rng with items to heal. mid game drg kicks ass and drk is pretty decent with soul eater, and end game a ninja can tear shit up.
Something that helped me alot was having a melee equipped with magic (of course they can't use it) and a mage that had some levels on a melee job. when my mage ran out of mp, i'd change them to melee, and convert that melee with fresh mp into my mage. just make sure to "charge" your mp and keep it equipped

In terms of character levels, farming can become incredibly easy once you have access to DRK. One DRK with Souleater can usually tear through things like no tomorrow.
As for job levels, usually job experience is awarded whenever a character has something happen at least once during a battle. This can be attacking, magic, defending. So the popular strategy is to go to the starting town and just set yourself to defend in battle and rack up the job exp afterwards.
At least that was how it was explained to me.

in mid game around lvl 30s, there is a undersea dungeon around south east of map are good to grind, later on is the bahamut dungeon.
one of good method to lvl is try to lvl your job to 99 as many as possible, the moment u got 3-4 lv 99 jobs, you should already around lvl 90. and some of the jobs are slower to lvl and some of the jobs lvl faster.

A dark knight with a blood sword can drain HP back after using Souleater with regular attacks; that makes the job much more efficient. You'll want to equip another, more powerful sword, but the effect will carry over to the totality of your attacks, not just the damage done by the blood sword (same with blood spear). However, around the time you get access to Dark Swords, blood sword's power is noticably low.
The biggest problem I've had in FF3 is Magic-using bosses. The two Floating Heads of Doom, and the monster guarding the Elder Staff. I barely managed to beat the Doom Head mages, but the Elder Staff guardian completely destroys me. I can pummel the hell out of any other boss in a couple of rounds. I've tried getting up enough MP to use Reflect, but they can use spells faster than I can Reflect four times for my whole party, and Reflect only survives one spell -- meanwhile, my white mage/devout isn't healing. I've tried abandoning the defense and just throwing everything at it; I barely managed to beat the Doom Heads this way, but the other one just demolishes me.
Do I need to setup my whole party as mages? I notice that my whm/devout takes FAR less damage than even my knight, from magic. But then I'm worried about physical attacks...
