    PSP Topic

    Since we had a pretty successful DS topic a while back, and I'm getting a PSP, thought we could start a PSP topic.

    I just bought one (1.5) off of ebay, and would appreciate some input on where to head with it. I'm planning on using it for psx, snes, psp games, and music. I read that you can listen to music+play games at same time? Some info on that would be nice <.< (wanna sell my ipod lol, depending on how well it works)

    Also, if anyone can post a list of some DONTS, please do, since it sounds like bricking a PSP is a lot easier than bricking a DS, and that's the last thing I'd want >_<

    Anyway, yeah, some noob-friendly tutorial (or good links) much appreciated <3

    PSP isn't good enough to replace an iPod. I haven't modded mine, it's been sitting untouched since I played through MGA2.

    It is good for RSS feeds and radio stations and excellent for portable porn however.

    4chan /v/ should have some people that know good links for PSP mods.

    t'is true, can put pretty much anything on it and it'll play.

    in terms of games I can't really say any that I've found that are about A+ in terms of all aspects of its gameplay, currently working on Spectral Souls which I just got from idea factory/NIS. NIS seems to be heading a lot of the RPG~esque games that're coming out/have come out for the PSP which are nice, Generation of Chaos, Disgaea portable coming out, looking forward to it.

    One drawback to the nice graphics on the portable is sometimes the loading times can be a real pain in the ass, but you get somewhat acclimated to the I suppose.

    if anyone knows of any good classic RPG type games on the PSP let me know, still looking for a classic TBS sprite type game.

    The only reason it can't replace an Ipod in my opionon is it's size. I personally use it as a portalable music player. But, It's too large to bring to the gym, etc...

    I haven't modded mine, there's always the chance even if you do everything correctly that it will fuck up your PSP.

    Your PSP may be unmoddable too depending how new it is. Any idea on that? Someone with info on the item # can tell you that for sure I think.

    There are some good games. Lumines, Lumines II, MG Acid, MG Acid 2, Tactis. They're remaking FF1 for it. Ridge Racer = really fun racing game. MegaMan X Command Mission and the remake of MM1 are nice.

    I think they say it's 1.5 in the OP therefore it's most likely moddable seeing as it is either old enough to be 1.5 or was modded in the first place to get to 1.5. I could be wrong, but just what I'd assume. I'm no expert, but I think all you really have to do at this point if you wanna do ps games is upgrade to custom firmware.

    I have a question though- I'm currently running 3.03 OE-A, and I have a snes emulator on it, but it doesn't work right. I know of other people's working just fine- I got these all from links my friend sent me. Could I be using a wrong version or something that's causing it to not be working right? I can get games running but they mess up- any help would be appreciated. ;;

    First backup all of your stuff on your memory stick then hit format it will create a bunch of new folders then goto PSP\GAME1.50 and stick your homebrew in there and it should work fine if not tell me and I'll go get my psp and help more.

    Re: PSP Topic

    Ok first I have a few questions.

    I read some tutorials, and they mentioned a USB connector thing, do I need this? I don't remember seeing it mentioned in the auction I got it from =/ (actually none of them did iirc)

    Do I need it to like get the custom firmware on it, or whatever, or can I just put that stuff onto my memory card and load it from there?

    Also, if anyone would be kind enough to go through briefly what I'm gonna have to do to play PSP and PSX games on it, after upgrading to the OE firmware, thanks. I have PSP and PSX games both in ISO format right now, so from there is fine <.< (or again point me in a direction where I can find this info, stuff I found made too many assumptions that people would know wtf they're talking about)

    Re: PSP Topic

    Don't you have to connect it through the usb to put the files on the memory card? When you hook your psp to the usb, in the end you're just putting the files from your memory card and loading it from there anyway, so I suppose if you can get it on the card it might work? I'm a little computer dumb, I wouldn't know- it's just a guess though. I've done it all via the usb though. ;/

    I'm trying to figure out ps roms too lol But I still haven't quite figured out snes yet. >_> Gonne take this one step at a time.

    Speaking of which- they still aren't working right. Was messing with it yesterday and no luck. Right now, all my roms and homebrew are in a GAME folder- tried renaming it with the 1.50 at the end just to see what it did and it couldn't read from there so I fixed it back. What snes emulator does everyone use or is there just the one? (snes9x or something) Just to clarify, games start up and they play- but like in Chrono Trigger on the loading screen the clock thing doesn't show up at all- and when the name comes up only Chrono shows lol Then in the actual game it looks fine til you bring up the menu then alot of that is missing lol I don't mean to sound stupid, but I guess when it comes to electronics, I am. ~_~

    I'd rather not post the instructions in a topic... I like guiding people through it so they understand whats going on and what its doing.

    Re: PSP Topic

    Well, my psp will be here in 2-3 days, so I can contact you then.

    Still would like to know a bit more about the USB thing <.<

    And one last question, for PSX emulation... Doesn't the PSP only have 1 right and 1 left shoulder key? what happens with L1/L2 R1/R2 <.<

    Re: PSP Topic

    You can get the mini usb cable from Best Buy or Gamestop for about $5-10.

    As for upgrading to a custom firmware, use this website : http://forums.qj.net/f-psp-firmware-...ead-84905.html

    It makes everthing alot easier. For homebrew applications and emulators, go to http://dl.qj.net/

    Doesn't the PSP only have 1 right and 1 left shoulder key? what happens with L1/L2 R1/R2
    Yes, the PSP only has one right/left shoulder key; the PSX emulator uses the analog nub for R2/L2. It's not so bad.

    Good luck and have fun

    P.S. The chances of bricking a PSP are very low(most claim its 1%)as long as you make sure the battery is at least 75% full before upgrading/downgrading and that you make sure you don't turn it off during those procedures.

    I'm trying to figure out ps roms too lol But I still haven't quite figured out snes yet. >_> Gonne take this one step at a time.
    As for you, you're going to need to create a GAME150 folder and drop your SNES emulator in it. That should fix it. I'm using the SNESPSP_TYL Standard Version v0.4.2 emulator and it works fine for the most part. Some slowdowns on a few games, but it can be easily fixed.

    For PSX games, they go in the GAME folder.

    My on/off switch just broke on mine yesterday. i'm thinking asbout gluing it back on.

    I use mine as an MP3 player hooked up to a CDtape and it sits in my car's center console.

    That's about all the use it's going to get until FFT: Lion Wars comes out.

    Oh- I went and changed folders some and dled the version you have and it seemed to fix the problem. I think I see what you mean about the slowdown- things seem to slow down when talking to people and going to the menu on Chrono Trigger- if there is a way to fix it that'd be great, but it's not unplayable like it was and that's what matters. (I haven't tried any battles yet- that might be worse lol I doubt unplayable though )

    Thanks for all the help- now I can focus on getting ps games working lol

    Yeah, Chrono Trigger suffers from bad slowdowns, but you can fix it by hitting both L and R buttons at the same time in the middle of gameplay to pull up options. Scroll over to 'Video' and change the frameskip settings to 1 or auto. And under 'Misc.', change the PSP clockspeed to 333mhz.

    It should help speed things up a bit, i.e. pulling up menus and talking to npcs. Unfortunately, the music in battle still lags a bit

    If you have any further questions just send me a PM. Good luck!

    Re: PSP Topic

    Any of you guys using the Snes9x_TYL0.4.2 beta++ thing by the jp guy who modded it, or are you all using the original version?

    description:

    ================================================== =

    This is an updated version of SNES9xTYL 0.4.2ME for the PSP. Japanese
    developer Ruka has taken up the emulator and has since made some
    improvements. Some games run faster and more smoothly now.

    ================================================== =

    Info:

    - Includes Beta 32 of Ruka's work on SNES9xTYL 0.4.2ME for the PSP.

    - I included an updated snesadvance.dat speed hacks file. (2007-05-14)
    The version included in the last SNES9xTYL was over a year old. This
    one contains many fixes and speed improvements.

    - Configured settings for optimal use. Some users weren't seeing any
    improvements in the update, most likely because their settings weren't
    configured properly. This fixes that so everyone can see the
    improvements.

    ================================================== =
    (curious about the version cause CT was one of the games I wanted to play <_<)
