Spell resistances modified by non-AM spells, yaright?

Please note- I don't believe this. I think it needs to be throughly shot down, and BG is a good way to do so.

I have had a fellow RDM hopping up and down with excitement, saying that casting damaging spells of -any- kind lowers resistance to the opposing element, not just AM's. That is, if he spams Stone, it'll improve Aero damage afterwards.

Please, kill this with painful, stabbity death for me. Thank you.

First I've heard of it. I'll stick with AM I & II, Ninjutsu and Threnody.

If this is true - and that's a pretty big if - it doesn't show itself like AM's do. Go into ballista and have someone cast Ninjitsu, AM, or a threadony on you. You'll notice on your equipment screen that your resistances fall accordingly. Cast a regular black magic spell, and the resistances do not change. Even if ballista isn't entirely representative of the rest of the ffxi world, it would at least show some change in resistance if this theory was true. Tell your RDM friend that his theory is a placebo effect at best without any extensive tests to back it up.

He might have confused this with the update where the more you nuke NM's the more they gain slight resistances to said spell. IE It would look like your Blizzard does more damage, partially because you've been hitting said mob with Fire for so long, or something...Either way his view is wrong. However I see where he could have thought otherwise.

Only AM, AMII,Ninjutsu, & Threnody lower elemental resistances. This is also noticible through PVP, where you can test it out to show him proof. Sponser a Diorama maybe, and nuke him a couple times. Also, maybe explain that NM's will grow slightly resistant to elemental spells repeatedly cast on them, however in my experience this is limited to the bigger NMs and even then is noticible only after some time. (Which is why we have the Elvaan BLM's use Flood to drop the Thunder Res, Taru ftw! )

Anyway, I hope this was of some help. Best way to show someone they're wrong is to prove it though, so maybe Diorama or Ballista him to seal the deal.

    Good Luck

Or instead of doing the above actions, you can simply add this person to your blacklist because there is no hope for him.

Answer: OP RDM is retarded and a bad player, like 80% of the FFXI community.
