    Vista and FFXI

Anyone here running Vista and FFXI? I have an Nvidia 7900 GS to go along with my Core 2 Duo 6300 1.86ghz. FFXI runs smoothly but it randomly crashes. If i reset my system the crashing will stop for a bit, then randomly continue a few hours later. Any ideas? I'm running 32-bit version version of vista.

this happens to me .... constantly.

can't stop it, though i'm fairly sure it's a driver issue. my problem is that i don't wanna mess around with other drivers since i finally found one that doesn't lag me to crap whenever fire or a bard song goes off.

likely i'm probably just gonna reinstall xp unless someone else has an idea of how to fix this.

    Re: Vista and FFXI

I've been keeping a documentation of all the joy that Vista + FFXI brings since i switched over to it. The most recent being the nVidia + Vista + FFXI FPS bug. Brand new GeForce 7900 GT getting RMA'd because no driver seems to be able to hold up more than 3FPS with other character models rendered on-screen. Back to ATI for me.

Are you using the Vista version of POL? I never installed it (i don't really trust it), instead i installed the game and POL on my Vista system, then copied over and overwrote the POL folder with one from an XP system. It's worked flawlessly for months.

Does the whole system restart, or just POL? Given it's timeframe it sounds like it could be an over-heating problem.

The only other problems I've heard about this, has been due to not using the Vista POL client, but somehow I think that's too easy of an answer... <.<

I need a new PC in a couple of months and I really wanted to check out Vista (OOOH SHINY!!!), but not if it's got problems with FFXI.

I used to have a problem where my ffxi would get stuck in the Loading Data screen upon logging on, which I attribuated it to being Vistas fault since it never did that on XP. But it doesnt do that anymore, it just kinda stopped. I can honestly say I have no problems when I run it now (knock on wood). I installed FFXI like normal, then I followed the guide in the Tech Support area of this forum, which was linked from windower.net.

Same for me, I think SE passed a ninja fix for this. It used to happen almost every day during character selection, but hasn't happened in a while.

I have 64 bit Vista, Core 2 T7200, 2gigs ram, and nvidia gforce GO 7600. I have no complaints about ffxi and vista. Now Visual Studio and Vista, that's a whole new can of worms.

Edit: I Don't use the POL vista program, just did the install/copy from my xp pc.

    Re: Vista and FFXI

I did have this before, but as far as I can tell I've totally corrected it now by:

    1. The newest drivers on the nvidia website.
    2. In the FFXI setup options I turned ON both Bump-Mapping and MIP-Mapping (I had them off for some reason before)

    And now, I never crash.

Whatever the case is, I'm glad they fixed it, I garden and it was especially inconvenient when switching to my mules.
