    Student loans

Since I know there are plenty of college students on these boards, I figured I would ask you guys what king of student loans you are getting and at what interest rate. I'm shopping around now and so many have their interest rates hidden it's really difficult to figure it out. Any help would be appreciated :D

I took out a $2500 loan from WellsFargo bank at 3.5%. I chose WellsFargo because I work at UPS and they have this program with the bank where UPS actually pays back the loan for you. Free college! And the cool thing is that the bank sends the check directly to the college and whatever amount the college doesn't need gets sent back to you in a check. I only needed ~$1400 for classes so I'll have a good grand to do whatever I want with :D

    I used a Private Lender...

    SallieMae.com
Got approved for $28,000 for 3 times ($84,000 Total)... As far as Intersest goes if you finish the schooling then your interest rate was going to be 4.75%.
    Since I dropped out I pay Prime+5% so I'm paying $28,000 @9.75% ><

    Re: Student loans

Best place to look is your school's financial aid office. They have people there who will help you figure out what grants/scholarships you can get and point you towards where to get good loans. Depending on your financial status you might qualify for government sponsored loans that will pay the interest for you. More likely than not you'll end up going through sallie mae, which is fine, they offer goodish deals. If your parents are active in the process you might also be able to get student loans from AARP which also had decent interest rates and stuff.

It's a good idea to try to keep your loans consolidated or at best all from one source that way you've only got 1 interest rate/payment to worry about. It's also a good idea to pay the interest while you're in school. If you don't the chances are the interest will roll over into the principle and by the time you're out of college you'll be paying back a whole hell of a lot more than you took out, and you'll be stuck with bigger interest payments. My loans from sallie mae have an option to automatically take monthly interest payments directly out of my bank account and it's going to save me thousands of dollars in the long run.

Really, bgboards is the worst possible place for the kinds of questions being asked lately. There are professionals who will talk to you in person, for free and give expert advice on campus. Why would you doubt their judgment?

because school doesn't start for a few more weeks and the first payments are due before then?

Campus is open year round and so is the financial aid office. The lines are probably ridiculously long now, so get there early!

I used CLC for my loans, they gave me 5 grand extra this past year so I bought a new car. Granted 2grand of that was unsub'd so im racking up interest on it right now, but at least I have a job and can drive to it.

That would be realistic if I lived right next to the campus, but it's 4 hours from where I live now. I'll use them all I can once I am on campus and stuff, but now that's just not realistic

Consider me lucky but I am 22 years old and and make roughly $40,000 a year working IT. I have 5 credit cards and one charge card with no preset limit, racking in a total of about $20,000 worth of credit freely for me to use. I am not in debt and I've never gone to college because I consider it a waste of time if you're talented when it comes to computers.

    Re: Student loans

I have been out of college for 3 years, and got my student loans consolidated into 1 20-year loan by Sallie Mae at a fixed interest rate of 2.75%.

It makes sense to me to pay my student loans back as slowly as possible, since I can get 5%+ interest on money sitting in an INGdirect account.

    Do I win?

The average advertising creative director makes $90,000/year. College is such a waste!
