    You wouldn't know that though because you've demonstrably never picked up a book nor educated yourself on the matter. Let me guess, overweight housewife?

    California dental >.>;

    So my bf needs to see a dentist about one of his molars but he's no longer on his parents plan (military). I haven't been in cali very long and where I work offers me dental insurance.

    Needless to say I need to find him a good dental plan, but I'm really unfamiliar with the plans in cali. Anyone have any suggestions that have been out here for awhile?

    Stay away from CIGNA especially, HMO's in general. Your best bet would be coverage under BlueCross PPO, comparable Blue Shield plans, or under Aetna.

    They're all out to take your money and not provide coverage when you need it most. So just pick one at random.

    Wow, dental on an insurance plan? I could see perhaps needing it later... for now, I just hit up the dentist once every 6 months and it costs me $75 a visit.

    One of his fillings is rotting his teeth, you can see it poking out on the sides. Getting that fixed would cost like 800$ without a plan and 120 with a plan. So it's a little different XD

    And ty for others for the input, gonna try calling atna and bcbs to see what their rates are but if I remember right they're kind of high. @@;

    Yea don't ever touch Cigna with a 9001' pole. They are horrible I used them for a while through my job because I was unable to use my moms Uninversity insurance because I didn't enroll a semester. It was the worst insurance experience I ever had. I used it to go get a check and a referal for something I had to get taken care of with and ENT, but needed the referal.

    I went they paid their share and I paid mine, then a month later I get a copy of a letter they sent to the doctor I went to, it was survey about what I went in there for, well I guess they didnt like it and they reversed the funds and I was stuck having to pay the bill 5 month laters, after they had paid it then took the money back. said it was a "preexisting condition", but I had never seen a doctor about it prior to my visit, plus I had already paid in about $600.

    Worst yet I couldn't cancel it until june of this year, but I had already been back on my mom's insurance since January, but missed their deadline to send them a note about new insurance. >< waste of money I could've been using elsewhere.

    Yeah, after making that post, I immediately thought of my old boss who is now retired and has had numerous problems with his teeth. I can't imagine what he'd pay if that _wasn't_ covered by any insurance policies.

    this man is right

    edit: kaisers have WAY friendlier staff attendants cause they get paid way more. its around the same price, never too big of a difference, but it really is good quality

    This helps me out too because I've lived in California my whole life and no longer have dental coverage since I graduated high school. If getting a dental plan lets me save money on getting my wisdom teeth out I wanna get one.

    Re: California dental >.>;

    Well, Most of my family works in the Dental Field so I feel I can comment on this safely:

    The comments about most plans randomly not covering the work are absolutely correct; I have seen completely justified claims turned down. (boo to the panel of people voting on another persons health.)

    Anyhow the best advice I have for you is find a dentist you like and trust call around, visit their offices, get a feel for the kind of person they are (most of them are money grubbing S.O.B's but that is beside the point) the most important thing is find a dentist who will allow you to set up a payment plan if you cannot afford to pay for the work upfront.

    Be realistic, you really only get one set of teeth to get you through the majority of your life! And anyone who says F(*# It and let them rot is an idiot. Dentures suck! You don't want your boyfriend leaving his teeth on the night stand in a few years

    Most dental plans will cost your ~$500 in premiums a year thats on top of your co-pay and what not. But really is $800 bucks too much to spend when its your tooth on the line? I'd hate to see someone lose a tooth if they were able to pay for it and they couldn't decide. If his tooth is as jacked up as you say it is it may already be too late to actually save it, and a crown will run you $1000 bucks not matter whether you have insurance or not.

    Good luck!

    Fin

    You don't have to be Michael Moore to realize that health insurance in the USA is a fucking joke and vultures hovering over your wallet. Ronald Reagan could figure that shit out, even with his Alzheimers

    dental hmo = teh sux. i wound up with this horrible craptacular quack and got hosed. and the dentist I had growing up doesn't take dental hmo, has to be ppo, so i'm paying out of my wallet for that. so yea, any ppo you can find would be good. if you have a dentist you want to see, call them and ask them which ones they take so you can be prepared.

    I have my own health insurance through my company.. but I'm covered under my mom's dental. I'm not sure how much she pays, but I get 2 cleanings+x-rays a year without having to pay a co-pay. :/

    xrays every year probably isn't necessary unless you get a lot of work done on your teeth and need to check its progress a lot. I don't like blasting my face/head with radiation unless i have to
