Was there ever a resolution for the huge visual lag caused by certain spells on nvidia cards? I searched the forums but couldn't find much except suggesting an older driver.
If anyone does have a fix for this please let me know, thanks.

Try playing the game without sounds enabled. I've found this sometimes helps.
Ah well the latest xtremeG don't seem to make a difference either. Is this an nVidia issue or an FFXI issue?
I solved this by getting an ATI Radeon instead of an nVidia. >.>

Pretty sure it's related to the type of effect that's used for these spells. I don't know if it's specific particles or shaders or whatever, but I guess it's something that most nVidia drivers have a hard time rendering.
And no, it's not related to your main CPU, since most (if not all) of the pure graphics rendering is done by the GPU nowadays. And this problem doesn't exist on ATI boards.
I remember someone saying it was SE's poor programming setup rather than your rig. My FPS drops whenever I see Firaga III or Ballad goes off. My Video is the ATI Radeon X1950 Crossfire Edition.
Someone would need to see the source code, before saying that :/
same problem.
7800 GT = dropping 15 - 20 fps during firaga, or bard songs.
realllllllllllly old ati radeon = fine.
Could just .dat swap the animations to something else to alleviate the issue.
Ya, on the computer I used to play ffxi with I used an original ati radeon and got good results.
You can get them on ebay and build a computer for $400 or less that will play ffxi better than a new top of the line computer with a top of the line graphics card.
This has honest to god been an issue thats been brought up on this forum before like 4 months ago and a bunch of times before that. viewtopic.php?f=36&t=17785&p=534695&hilit=Nvidia#p 534695 I'm really not sure if it was ever brought to SE's attention anyways.
I've tried every set of driver, every quality setting, e v e r y t h i n g. The only way i could fix it was swapping dats to something other than bard files.
Here's something to try though. Open FFXI w/o windower and see if they lag...if they don't, ask cliff, if they do still lag, contact SE.
Anyone mind posting which folders the animation dats are in or a program to find them? Im tired of the brd song issue too and im finally gonna swap it to some other animation.
Go get spellswapper from windower forum.Originally Posted by Fathoover

But with that one you could just install really old drivers and it'd work perfectly. That doesn't work with the newer cards though. Guess i'll have to try and sell my nVidia card and buy a ATI instead. ^^
Edit: Anyone know of a pretty good ATI card that doesn't cost all that much? ^^
Definitely an FFXI issue, there is zero problems with the animations in third party dat viewers, smooth as you like ; ;
X1950 Pros are pretty good, and not very expensive as far as video cards go. They're about $125-$200, depending on what kind you get (I'm partial to sapphire's, but that's just me) and how much memory you get.Originally Posted by Razril
