Targeting Bug?

Alright, I'm not sure if this is the correct place to post a question like this, but here goes anyway:

A few weeks ago, I noticed my F1 to F6 keys would stop working for targeting PT members. I'm not sure why, but I called tech support. They said the only way to rebind a key was to reinstall FFXI. So, I did. Worked great until I logged out, logged back in, keys quit working. a friend gave me the advice to delete the User folder and try that. It worked too, but only until the next reboot of the game, not to mention I lost all of my other settings/macros. It's not dependant on a machine either, I've logged into my brother's computer, same thing. But, his keys still work when he's on his character. It makes no sense to me.

Is anyone else having problems like this or know someone having problems like this? SE tech support basicly told me they don't know what's wrong. Can anyone offer me suggestions or ideas? Don't really know what to do, and don't feel like clearing my macros/settings each time I feel like logging in, just to have my keys work.

That was my first guess as well, it's happened to all of us at one point or another. However the missing macros, and having the same thing happen on another PC makes me wonder if it's something different.

the missing macros are because he deleted his user folder.

as for the keys working on one character but not the other? you've got me stumped that's a client side thing and shouldn't be misconfigurable like that

unless he somehow managed to unbind/overbind the ctl+alt keys.

To clarify. I'm not using windower, and my macro's aren't the problem. I don't have a new keyboard with an F Lock, I'm still using an older keyboard...

I'm aware deleting the User folder clears my macros. My problem lies in the F1 to F6 keys unbinding themselves after each time I log out, and log in to the game. For what ever reason, it's clearing my keybinds to the game itself, not to a windower, or anything like that.

Example:
F1 targets self in game, works fine.
Restart FFXI.
F1 no longer targets my character.
Exit FFXI, reinstall FFXI (Or delete the User folder.)
Works again.
Restart FFXI.
No longer works.

If I backup the user folder, and copy it over a fresh install, the glitch is there. It's something in the user folder that FFXI is saving as a setting. It's clearing my keybinds for the game.

I've tried multiple computers, as well as multiple keyboards on each. I'm baffled.

I've also tried several characters on one machine, it's isolated to my character, it's not affecting any other characters I log into the same machine with. (Making me think there's an issue with my User files FFXI is saving.)

It does however work on an Xbox360, but I play on a PC. So, that doesn't help me much. I submitted a bug report to SE, as well as contacted their tech support, the best they told me was to run file check and reinstall again.

Reinstalling/Clearing User folder (therefore deleting my job's macros) each time I want to play isn't an option... Anyone have advice?

try a windower keybind (I know you said you don't use windower) but try one on an F-key and see if it fires

if it does... just bind windower macros over them instead I guess it's really the easiest solution I think

otherwise, try restoring 'default controls' in the config menu for keyboards that may solve whatever the 'glitch' is

or try copying a user file over from a mule that does work or something.
