    Router Question

I suck at routers and have no clue about DNS stuff etc etc. so heres my situation. I want to get my nintendo DS and wii online with this new router. It doesn't work.

When I try to connect it says it cannot obtain a IP and to check the nintendowifi site. Sure. I go on and try to do the DNS stuff it says but then it cannot connect at all. I already checked the known incompatable routers but it doesnt seem like mine is one of them. It lists the Actiontec GT704-WG but I have the Actiontec MI424-WR.

Well if anyone knows about the wii/DS and has some router knowledge then that would be super awesome.

    Re: Router Question

Assign an IP address manually, or turn the DHCP on in the router.

I don't know how to do that, hence the post. I think DHCP is on though.

-.- I have some idea of what I'm doing. Yes I'm using WEP, when I connect it says I can't get an IP.

Hmmmm, shutdown the Wii and DS, power cycle the router. See if that restores connectivity for you.

What does power cycle mean? >.>

Also I never had connectivity with this router with the DS so I don't know if that will work. New router. :X

My laptop, yeah. It's set to auto-obtain a IP.

And the only time i see the DS connected is after it gives me the "cannot obtain an IP address" message if I dont press ok.

Is it possible to have it auto give out IP for my laptop and craps but set one for the DS/Wii? I'm not sure how to do that in the router or what to fill out on the DS.

    Re: Router Question

set your routers DHCP pool to .5 to .254 first

then in your DS where you goto set up your connection say no to automatically obtain an ip address, change the ip address to 192.168.1.2 (if 192.168.1.x is your true subnet... it maybe different, whatever you set up) change the subnet mask to 255.255.255.0 change the default gateway to your routers ip, change the DNS servers to 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.202.202, make sure you still have your WEP key set correctly, and make sure your network id (whatever you named it on your router... linksys by default is linksys, dlink is dlink etc... (mine is laptops since only my laptops use wireless...)) then try to connect again

    Re: Router Question

I have a D-Link WBR-1310 wireless router, my problem with it is, There are times the connection will just crap out and I have to reset the router or unplug/replug and it comes back up.
I usually check my modem first and it always checks out, For whatever reason its always the router that just doesnt recognize the shit that is plugged into it, vonage device, and computer.
What should I do, get a new router?

I would also like to connect my wii and ds lol, but figure I need to get that shit working right first.
