BLM Apollyon NW Solo Win Video

A friend in LS recently came along with me to film the entire run. Technically it's a duo because 2 ppl are in the zone but he's naked the entire time outside of Moogle cap and doesn't do anything except film, get hit on some Bind MPKs, and I think aggro a mob on the second floor.

Filmer was japanese so the video is from JP version of FFXI. I think it should still be pretty obvious what's going on. He's in 640x480 so it's really easy to see text box.

Took 1 hour 10 minutes to win start to finish. Got incredibly lucky on the portal (1>1>1>3) and killed 2F boss in addition to Kaiser. Came out with 4 AF items, 32 coins, chip, and 20 minutes spare. 7th win in a total of 10 attempts to win going in. No medications other than reraise hairpin, and 2 melon pie +1s.

It's 73 minutes uncut with some minor music changes I think. I'm trying to figure out if I should cut it (and if so how to do that?) before I blog it. Any advice on how to cut, where to cut, etc. would be greatly appreciated. Also, does it take a long time to load on the stage6 site?

Hope it's enjoyable! I really like the music.

EDIT: I'm on WIndower 3.25 (older version). Plugins: Distance, IME, TParty, Windower Macros (no recast stuff, don't like it)

Any advice on how to cut, where to cut, etc. would be greatly appreciated. Also, does it take a long time to load on the stage6 site?

VirtualDub 4tw when just doing basic chores. I'd advise clipping off that far right side--the bright rainbow (VHS recording from a PS2?) is really distracting.

Otherwise, it's great, very useful and a lot of good tactics.

bleh, I've been doing this duo rdm+blm for a while and we never have even close to your luck. it's always 5 ghosts, 3 buffalo, 3 bugards, and then 1 wyvern (we kill all the wyverns + fafnir so it's moot) and end up winning with like 5 min. I can't remember the last time we got 6 coins off of an NQ behemoth either, you got it off all three ;;

Hmmm I see that annoying streak in the stage6 version of the video but it's not on mine when I actually downloaded it off the stage6 site - not sure what's going on there. Thanks for the website Nara, I'll be sure to try that out when I make cuts; it's a little too long to leave as is I think.

That's actually by far the luckiest run I've ever had (going for win or just coins). 1>1>1>anything is pretty much the best you can do and the chances of that happening are like probably <5%. Also, KB only chose to use Flame armor as the TP moves - usually I have to deal with a thunderbolt which is dangerous. Most I've ever had to kill and actually still win is 3>3>3>4 but I had an incredible KB fight and perfect day setup to do that.

I think if you consider the amount of time I still had left (19ish minutes), playing with the 2F add and the boss which was optional, and having gimped dark magic on KB due to lightsday, there's obvious room for a ton of extra mobs to be killed going up. I think the KB fight was nearly 30 minutes. I can get that down to about 21-22 on darksday since the aspirs determine how quickly the fight gets done. I'm actually glad I got up so quickly because it gets repetitive on those early floors and makes for an even longer video.

Very nice video, I never have attempted a solo run at this and currently working up the nerve to do so. I've looked over your blog quite a bit, but one thing strikes me about these solo efforts is how important of a factor are the gaiters? Along with this i'd also like to try ix'mnk which seems to be even more heavily skewed to having some sort of movement+ (whether it be blm soloing it or rdm with crimson) but was curious what you thought about it.

Just want to say good job, and thanks for posting about it in your blog. Two weeks ago I attempted it aswell, and went 1>1>3>2 and eventually won with around 11 min left. I even wiped one time due to HP aggro on first floor after I got vortex lol. I've won it before with duo and trios, but thought I'd give solo a try after I saw your blog entry about the KB boss nuke trick (also makes duo/trio muuuch easier)

Nice job, never really tried to solo kb. maybe ill have to try now. I'd have to say cut out all the resting/buffing and probaly speed up the time 2-3x to make it shorter. Could do some other tricks, like multiple windows and show you fighting 2-3 mobs at once or something to speed it up even more. I just kinda skipped to KB fight to watch that, since I have solo'd the rest before.

The principal is simple, sure the technique is impressive, but heck, I'd say this is more of an epeen video than anything educational/entertaining. It's sort of like you posted it here to get a pat on the back or something.

I'll post some more to make myself clearer: I'm not attempting to take the glory away from what you've done, but I feel if you really wanted to post an informative video you'd have just cut the chaff, as posted above. I'm pretty sure the concept of killing mobs with the aid of Sleep, Gravity and Bind is nothing new to most Black Mages who read BG (or even who play this game...). You could have annotated the parts which you felt were important, sped up the parts you didn't, perhaps some link backs to points in your blog. On it's own, the video is more spectacle than strategy.

This is Media Center section, people post videos of what they want, you can or not watch them, the technique is impressive and helps other blm's how to do this kind of stuff, besides if you ever have seen his LJ, you would know that is very educational, my ls has used some of his strategies to do ks99's and omega/ultima, even others like Inoiown have used his technique to solo this zone.

Is not about epeen is to show how stuff can be done in this game taking advantage of what you have, which is the meaning of having herald gaiters if you cant get full use of them or other gear he has.

Congratulations again to Kaeko and Inoiown, question Ino do you have gaiters or you did this without them?
