Found something semi-random with the NPCs that send you to whitegate from your home nation.

If you trade them the 300g, then d/c during the text... they will keep the 300g in reserve for next time. Just talking to them normally after the fact and they will warp you.

Don't lose your 300g :D

Same thing with the warp taru in Whitegate when my PS2 freezes talking to him.

Yep, I always used that trick if I accidentally pick the wrong destination at the coin taru. Force d/c and he lets you re-choose without charging another coin.

I found that out by accident once. I thought I was going to loose my coin.
