7800gs and my sweet headache

I am at my wits end. I have tired about 2 dozen different drivers from nVida's website and Guru3D and nothing seems to be working.

For some reason my old 6600 would run FFXI flawlessly. Which was nice but it couldn't run Doom 3, Quake 4, FarCry, Oblivion with out crapping itself. Lucky for me I got a 7800gs to replace it! I thought, "Hey! This is gonna be sweet!" Played all those games with ease and it looked great.

Well, I came back to FFXI after I got this new card. Problem is with every driver I use (even the one SE says is a-ok), and every setup option with nVida control panel or FFXI settings, I get some ugly texture rendering. Either a) every in game texture will flicker or b) there is a plethora of small, perfect, square, white holes that like to come and go.

The closest I came to a solution was the 97.41 ver. The problem was still there, but not as bad. Another downside to those drivers is I can't watch any video at all. With any player. If I attempt to view any videos then my PC acts like Sundi casted gravity VIII on it. To top it all off, my porn becomes useless which is sad indeed.

If anyone has insight that could solve my dilemma, and help restore FFXI to SOME beauty (as well as the added porn bonus), I shall give you 1000 thank yous.

They modified some way of rendering 3d graphics in the later cards/drivers that FFXI didn't like, especially certain effects (for me that contained blur) like BRD songs, Firaga 1, Escape, Counterstance.

Because of this I had stayed away from nvidia cards for the longest time, since this is the only game I really play a lot; I finally got a 8800 gts and the problem doesn't seem to occur anymore. It was just kind of a given from all I heard from friends in game that the 7 series cards just didn't like FFXI.

I know for a fact this card worked well with FFXI. I belonged to a friend of mine who also plays and when he played, it looked ok. Sadly tho, he forgot which driver's he used. He thinks its 97.41 but not 100% sure.

So I know it works >.> I just don't know how to make it work.
